UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ELLIOTT B. CLARK, OF WELDON, NORTH CAROLINA.
BOTTLE CONSTRUCTION.
Application filed December 10, 1924. Serial No. 755,089.
This invention relates to improvements in bottles or similar containers, an object being to provide a bottle or the like which may be easily and thoroughly Washed so as to render the bottle sanitary, the construction eliinlnating sharp corners upon the interior of the bottle so as to reduce danger of accumulation of dirt or other injurious matter.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a bottle which is constructed so as to prevent a person from drinking directly prevents the flanged opening from being reached by a person attempting to drink from the bottle.
With the above and other objects in View,
(rated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the appended claim.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a sectional view of a bottle constructedL in accordance with the invention.
Figure 2 same.
Figure 3 is a section showing a modified form of the invention.
Referring to the drawi gs in detail wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts, the bottle which is especially adapted for containing soft drinks, is as shown in Figure 1, provided With a neck 10 and a mouth 11, the latter being adapted to be closed by a crown seal or other closure 12. e
The bottom of the bottle is provided with an opening 13 which is surrounded by a flange 14:, the adjacent portions of the bottom of the bottle being rounded as indicated at 15 so as to eliminate sharp corners and is a bottom plan view of the .1' sightly lined, illus' prevent the accumulation of foreign matter. The opening 13 is adapted to be closed by a removable seal 16, which, When removed ivillpermit of the passage of Water directly through the bottleso that the latter may be quickly and thoroughly cleaned.
The bottom of the bottle is provided With a flange 17 Wl'lOSG outer edge extends beyond the seal 16. The flange 17 is spaced from the flange 1d and forms a relatively Wide base upon Which the bottle'may rest Without having the seal 16 engage the surface upon which the bottle is'placed. This prevents accidental loosening of the seal. The flange 17 is interrupted as indicated at 18 so as to permit of the insertion of a suitable implement for the removal of the seal 16.
in Figure 3 of the drawings, the flange naich is indicated at 17 surrounds and extends above the mouth 11 and prevents placing the mouth 11 to the mouth of a person attempting to drink from the bottle. The flange 17 is also interrupted as indicated at 18 so that an opener may be inserted for the removal of a seal.
In addition to the advantages set forth, the construction oi the bottle is such as to render it easily recognizable and a person picking up the bottle in the dark would quickly recognize the same. This feature adapts the bottle as a poison container.
The invention is susceptible of various changes in its form, proportions and minor details of construction and the right is herein reserved to make such changes as properly fall within the scope of the appended claim.
Having described the invention What is claimed is A bottle having an opening therein surrounded by concentrically arranged inner and outer radially spaced flanges of an appreciable depth, the opening being adapted to be closed by a seal having flanges crimped around the inner flange ofthe bottle, the
