' CAP.
Application. filed February 20, 1826. Serial No. 89,631.
This invention relates to caps and has particular relation to new and novel improvements in vizors therefor.
Objects of the invention are to provide a cap of simple, durable construction having an extensible vizor which may be quickly and conveniently operated to and from an entend ed position while the cap is positioned on the head.
(laps of this same general character as heretofore constructed have been of unattractive appearance, inasmuch as the extensible portion of the vizor has been prominently displayed either on the upper or lower surface of the fixed vizor of the cap.
It is therefore an object of this invention to provide a cap having an extensible vizor which when not extended will be inconspicuous and to thereby provide a cap of the class above indicated which will be neat and attractive in appearance.
The above objects are accomplished and additional ends are attained bythe novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein I have shown a preferred form of the invention, it being understood that changes and modifications may be made or resort had to substitutions which come within the scope of the claims hereunto appended.
In the drawings like characters of reference are used to denote like parts as the same may appear in any of the several views and in which Figure 1 is a side elevational view of a cap constructed in accorda ice with this invention and showing the forward portion thereof broken away and illustrated in central, vertical section, the same being taken with the extensible vizor in an inward position. i
Figure 2 is a similar view of the vizor in an extended position. I
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken as indicated by the lines 3-3 of Figure 1 and showing the extensible portion of the vizor in an inward or folded position.
Figure & is a similar view showing the vizor in an extended position.
Proceeding now to a detailed description of theinvention with reference to the particular adaptation thereof disclosed in the drawings, the numeral 5 is used to denote the main body of a cap While the cap may be of any desired construction the cap illustrated in the drawing, is provided with a forwardly projecting portion 6 which is adapted to be positioned against the upper face of the vizor. The cap is provided with a fixed upper vizor 7 and a fixed lower vizor e which project forwardly '1 in parallel spaced relation from the base of the cap. The lateral edges 9 and 10 ofsaid fixed vizors T and 8 are sewed or otherwise joined, while the forward edges of said vizors are not connected, thus forming a flat pocket 11 in which is slidably positioned an extensible vizor 12. The lower fixed vizor 8 is relatively narower thanthe upper fixed vizor 2 and the extensible vizor 12 is of an intermediate width whereby the same when operated to an inward position, will project forwardly beyond the lower vizor 8 with the forward edge thereof positioned rearwardly from the forward edge of the vizor 7. The numeral 13 denotes flexible strips 0 cords which are secured to the base of the cap so to extend forwardly in the pocket 11. The straps 13 are preferably arranged in spaced relation with the forward ends there of suitably secured to the rear edge portion of the extensible vizor 12. The straps 13 are of suflicient length to limit the forward movement of the vizor 12 whereby it may be pulled to a forward position as shown in Figures 2 and 4:, without entirely removing it from the pocket 11.
in use, the cap is ordinarily worn with the vi or 12 in an inward position as shown in Figure 1. lVith the vizor 12 in this position, the cap is of the same appearance as all ill
j be quickly and conveniently extended by seizing the forward edge of the extensible vizor 12 with the thumb and finger. To position the vizor in an inward position, it may ordinary cap. When desired, the vizor 12 e be easily pushed to an inward position by pressing the hand against the forward edge of the vizor 12.
ld hile the vizor portions 8, 7 and 12 may be formed of any suitable material, I prefer to have the same formed of the same mate-- rial as thebody of the cap 5 whereby the cap will be similar in appearance to those of ordinary construction.
Having thus illustrated my invention and described the same in detail, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. In a cap, an upper and a lower fixed vizor and an intermediate vizor, said upper and lower vizors being unconnected along the forward edges thereof and connected along the side and rear edges thereof to form a pocket adapted to receive said inte mediate vizor, said intermediate vizor slidably mounted in said pocket for movement to and from a forwardly projecting position.
2. In a cap, an upper and a lower fixed vizor, and an intermediate vizor, said upper and lower vizors being unconnected along their front edges and connected along the side and rear edges thereof to form a pocket adapted to receive said intermediate vizor,
saidintermediate vizor slidably mounted in said pocket for movement to and from a forwardly projecting position and means within said pocket to limit the forward movement of said intermediate vizor.
3. In a. cap, upper and lower fixed vizors and an intermediate vizor, said fixed vizors being unconnected along their forward edges and connected along their side edges and along the base of the cap to form a pocket adapted to receive said intermediate vizor, the upper vizor projecting forwardly beyond the lower vizor, said intermediate vizor slidably mounted in said pocket for movement to a forward projecting position.
4. In a cap, upper and lower fixed vizors and an intermediate vizor, said fixed vizors connected along the side and rear edges thereof to form a pocket adapted to receive said intermediate vizor. the upper vizor projecting beyond the lower visor, said intermediate vizor slidably mounted in said pocket for movement forwardly and rearwardly therein, said upper vizor projecting forwardly beyond said intermediate vizor when the intermediate vizor is in a rearward position in said pocket, said intermediate vizor when in a rearward position in said pocket projecting beyond the lower vizor, said intermediate vizor when in a forward position projecting beyond said upper vizor.
In testin'iony whereof I have hereunto set my hand.
JIRO CASTANARO.
