FILING ENVELOPE.

The object of this invention is to provide a bandless filing envelope including particular means for rendering the device adjustable, so that it will fit and secure the packet of papers to be inclosed therein.

A. further object is to provide in a device of this type, a main or back portion of heavy paper or tag board, moans secured thereto thereby closing the envelope and securing it without the necessity of providing bands or' other similar devices. 7

In the drawings, Figure 1 is a plan view of the envelope, unfolded; Figure 2 is a transverse section through the folded envelope; Figure-3 is a longitudinal section; Figure 4 is a longitudinal section through the element at the left of Figure 1; Figure 5 is a fragmentary section of a part of the structure at the right of Figure 1; Figure (3 is a section through one'of the reinforced pockets and edge portions.

The sheet of heavy paper or tag board of which the device is formed includes a rectangular portion 10 which will be termed the front, an adjacent rectangular portion 11 having score lines 12 and a folded over portion 13. The latter is cut away at 14, 15, and incloses asecuring device comprising a'resilient strip 16 normally flat, and retained by eyelets 17, or other suitable means.

On the opposite side of element 10 is a rectangular portion 18 having its outer edge 19 folded over, this portion 18 having score lines 20 therein.

The long edges of the main sheet are folded outwardly at 22,23 and each of these folds includes an inner reinforcing thickness 24, so that the pockets or sockets for PATENT ()FFICE- the endsflof resilient strip 16 may be of sub- I stantial construction. 7

A commercial type of paper fastener or wire clip 25 is made use of in forming the pockets, and these devices are passed through the folded portions, in alinement with the score lines 20, and are secured on the inner side. The openings 26 of the pockets thus formed are toward each other, on opposite edges of the por ion 18 of the envelope.

On the inner side of the element 10,1 secure a strip 28 comprising a central portion of the size of member 10 and including end flaps 29, 30, adapted to overlap and come into immediate contact with the papers to be mclosed, The portions 10, 11, 18 and 19, together with folded portion 13, are formed of on'e'piece, and the elements of the pock- Q ets (other than the wire fasteners or staples),

are part of the same main sheet of paper or tag board. The reinforcing strip 28 and flaps 29, 30, constitute the other sheet of the envelope, in its complete form.

The papers having been inclosed, portions 11 and 18 are folded along those score lines which will permit of closingthe file incom pact mann'er,the strip 16 is flexed, and the ends thereof enter two of the oppositely located pockets, at which time pressure on the element 16 is removed, and the file is proping projection ends and means forming pockets for receiving the projecting ends, said means comprising folded'over portions on opposite edges of the sheet first named, the outer walls of the pockets being reinforced by an additional fold, providing stiffened. edgeportions for guiding the ends of the resilient strip into the pockets.
