COMBINED CHAIN PENDANT AND COUPLER.

My invention relates to an improved, combined chain-pendant and coupler par ticularly adapted for use in conjunction with the bead pull-chains of electric fix- B tures, but not so limited, the object being to produce a convenient and attractive chainpendant or terminal adapted also to be used as a chain-coupler when it is desired, for any reason, to increase the length of the chain With these ends in view, my invention consists in a ball-like, combined chain-pendant and coupler made from a single piece of metal and characterized by having, at
its respective ends, co-axial bead-receiving openings surrounded by inwardly-turned, yielding, bead-gripping fingers and having a seam intersecting the said openings.
My invention further consists in a combined pendant and coupler characterized as above and having certain details of construction as will be hereinafter more fully de scribed and pointed out in the claims.

My improved, combined, ball-like chainpendant and coupler, as herein shown, consists of a central body-portion 10 having, at its upper and lower ends, co-axial openings 11 enclosed by the inwardly-turned ends 12 of yielding, tapered fingers 13 symmetri- '14, by which the coupler is expanded when cally formed upon the oppoiste edges of its central body-portion 10, the said co-axial openings being intersected by a single seam it is desired to remove it from the chain or chains.
The pendant thus produced may be used either end uppermost in the manner of such pendants, which are commonly applied to the bead-chains 15 of pull-chain electriclight fixtures. If desired to extend the length of any bead-chain, the upper bead of another length of chain 16 is forced into the lowermost of the two co-axial holes of the pendant. If desired to remove the pendant either from one or two chains, it is only necessary to insert a sharp instrument, such as a knife, into the vertical seam 14;,- which is formed by the abutting ends 18' of the blank when the same has been formed up. i
In producing my pendant, I first cut a fiat blank, such as shown in Figs. 5 and 6, from a single piece of suitable sheet-metal. This blank is next subjected to the action of dies, whereby the ends 12 of its tapered fingers 13 are bent upward at a substantial right angle to the plane of the blank, as shown in Figs. 7 and 8. The partly-formed blank of Figs. 7 and 8 is bent into U- shaped form, as shown by full lines in Fig. 9. The blank is then subjected to a further forming operation to bring it into the tubularform indicated by broken lines in the same figure. The next operation causes the fingers to converge. as shown in Figs. 1 to 4 inclusive, and produces the coaxial, beadreceiving holes 11 intersected by the seam 14;. the pendant now being of ball-like shape.

A combined chainpendant and coupler, consisting of a single piece of sheet metal shaped to form a hollow ball having co-axial, bead-receiving openings surrounded by inwardly-turned yielding bead-gripping fingers and having a seam extending from end to end and intersecting the said co-axial, bead-receiving openings through which the gealdsot a bead-chain are forced into the.
