FOUNTAIN COMB.
Application filed February The invention relates to fountain combs particularly adapted for receiving in the reservoir thereof hair ye, and has for its object to provide a device of this character comprising a bony member having a longitudinally disposed dye receiving reservoir and a plurality of teeth, discharge ports extending into the reservoir and discharging between the teeth and a rotatable valve having ports therein which register with the discharge ports, and by means of which valve the flow of dye through the discharge ports may be regulated or entirely cut off.
A further object is to provide a threaded valve extending longitudinally between the inner ends of the comb teeth and the chamher, and which threaded valve forms means whereby the flow of die through the ports may be regulated or entirely out off and the use of a threaded valve prevents leakage through the valve chamber and obviates the necessity of providing special packing for the valve.
lVith the above and other objects in view the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawing, described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention may be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawing z- Figure 1 is a perspective view of the comb.
Figure 2 is a side elevation of the comb, partially in longitudinal section and par tially in side elevation.
Figure 3 is avertical transverse sectional view taken on line 33 of Figure 2.
Referring to the drawing, the numeral 1 designates the handle of the comb, which handle terminates in a tubular member 2 having a longitudinally disposed dye receiv ing reservoir therein, which reservoir is filled with dye to be distributed on the hair during a hair combing operation. The outer end of the reservoir 3 is provided with a threaded closure 4 having a key receiving lug 5. which when the key 6 is placed thereon allows the closure 4 to be easily removed for filling the reservoir 3 with dye and also allows the closure to be screwed to closed position. Disposed below the tubular portion 2 is a longitudinally disposed valve 3, 1926. Serial No.
casin g 7, through which is threaded a threaded valve 8, and which valve 8 is in parallel relation to the r eservoir 3, and is provided with a plurality of ports 9 which are adapted to register with the discharge ports 10, which extend through the valve casing 7 and are in communication at their upper ends with the reservoir 3.
and at their lower ends terminate between the spaced teeth 11 of the comb, therefore it will be seen that the dye discharged from the reservoir 3 through the ports 10 and 9 will flow downwardly onto the tapered teeth 11 of the comb, and during a combing operation will be dist-ributed uniformly on the hair.
By threading casing it will be by means of the the valve 8 in the valve noted by rotating the valve key placed on the angular shaped lug 12.carried by the outer end of the valve the ports 9 extending through the valve will be moved into or out of registration with the ports 10, and at the same time *a relatively small flow of dye may be allowed to pass through the teeth upon a partial rotation of the threaded valve.
By thread- The invention having been set forth what is claimed as new and useful is A hair dying comb comprising a, handle member, a dye receiving reservoir carried by one end of the handle member, a valve casing below the reservoir, a plurality of teeth de' pending from the valve casing and having ports connecting the spaces therebetween with the reservoir through the valve casing and a threaded valve threaded through the valve casing between the teeth and the reservoir and extending the full length of the casing of the reservoir and having ports therein adapted mentioned ports.
to register with the first In testimony whereof I hereunto aflix my s1 gnature.
WILLIAM J. BORER.
