ATTACHMENT LAMP HOLDER FOR VEHICLES.

Be it known that I, JOHN T. FAGAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cleveland, in the county of cuyahoga, State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Attachment Lamp Holders for Vehicles, of which the following is a specification.

Myinvention relates to holders for electric incandescent lamps adapted to be mounted on vehicles such as automobiles. One feature of my invention is the provision of a holder having av number of sockets, clips, orother retainers for electric incandescentlamps of various sizes and constructions in eluding headlamps, tail lamps, dash lamps and others. My invention also includes indicating means so that the driver will have no difiiculty in selecting the proper lamp or for placing a new supply invtheproper places. ,Another feature of my invention is the provision of means whereby the holder may be concealed or exposed and rendered easy of access when desired. Further features and advantages will appear from the following description of a species thereof and reference to the accompanying drawing.

In the drawing Fig. 1 is a prespective showing my improved holder attached to a portion of a dash or cowl of an automobile, the holder being in the folded position; Fig. 9. is a vertical section through these parts with the holder in the removing or loading position; Fig. 3 is a front elevation of the holder plate proper; and Fig. 4: is a side elevation thereof.

Referring to the drawing, 10 is a portion of an automobile cowl and has a flange 11 extending along the bottom thereof in "a direction away from the driver. The holder is held to the said flange by a. clamp comprising an upper member 12 and a lower member 13 between which the flange 11 is held by the action of screws 14 passing through the upper and lower members. The upper and lower members are forkshaped at one end. The lower member 13 has a, downwardly and obliquely extending portion 15 opposite the opening of said fork. The lainpretaining member 16 has centrally disposed projections 17 at its top between which extends a shaft 18. 21 serve as the adjustable clamping means, which permits the pressure upon the triangular-sectioned shaft 18 to be adjusted. After the holder has been swun to the concealed position, the hut 20 may be tightened up so as to hold the holder securely againstordinary shocks. The triangular-sectioned shaft 18 has three flat faces corresponding to thetwo faces of the hook-shaped end of the plate 19 and the opposed surface of the member 15 between which. said shaft is held. \Vhen the shaft is turned it snaps successively into each of three positions, which correspond to the unloading position, a.

neutral position and the concealed position of the holder. The hook 2.2 may be grasped to swing the holder-into its various posi tions.

The holder proper comprises a series of sockets 23 for lamps 23' arranged preferably in a semi-circle, there being six of said sockets shown. The central portion of the holder may contain acard 24 upon which may be marked the lamp order numbers corresponding to the lamps listed at the sides of the card. Each socket is provided at its rear with a spring back plate 25. The sockets shown are of the bayonet type although this may be varied to accommodate any type-of lamp base. A spring 26 is provided to support the removable lamp number card 24 in its holder 27.

What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is:

1. In a. vehicle lamp holder, the combination of means for clamping the same to a vehicle part, a member comprising means for retaining lamps, and means allowin relative movement. between said part. and member to permit changes in the position of said lamp retaining member, said second means operating to hold said member in at least one relatively fixed position.

2. In a vehicle lamp holder, the combina tion of means for clamping the same to a vehicle cowl, a lamp supporting member comprising sockets for retaining lamps and means allowing said member to be swung relatively to said clamping means and vehicle cowl to conceal or to disclosethe lamps carried by the member, said second .means operating to hold said member in at least one relatively fixed position.

3. In a vehicle, the combination of a cow],

a lamp holder, means clamping-said lamp I holder to the lower part of said cowl, said holder comprising a movable lamp supporting member and means allowing said supporting member to be moved to a position above the lower edge of said cowl or below said edge as desired, said second means operating to hold said member in at least one relatively fixed position.

4. In a vehicle, the combination of a cowl, a lamp holder, means clamping said lamp holder to the lower part of said cowl, a supporting member comprising a lamp retaining agent, means allowing said member to be moved to a position above the lower edge of said cowl or below said edge as desired and means for securing said member in its upper position, said second means operating to hold said member in at least one relatively fixed position.

5. In a vehicle lamp holder, the combination of means for clamping the same to a vehicle part, a member comprising means for retaining lamps, means holding said member to said clamping means comprising a shaft having a plurality of flat faces and means carried by said member surrounding said shaft so that the member may be snapped into a desired position by rotation around said shaft.
