GASOLINE-FILTER ATTACHMENT FOR MOTOR VEHICLES.

Be it-known that I, FHENRY'G. LAMBERT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Roll. in the county of Pontotoc and State of (Oklahoma, haveinvcnted certain new and useful Improvements in a Gas-oline Filter Attachmentfor hlotor Vehicles, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in gasoline filter attachments for motor vehicles andhas for its primary object taprovide a simple .andeliicient device which is placed in the feed line between the'vacuum ank and the pipe loading to the-carburetor for the purpose of filtering the gasoline before the same is delivered to the carburetor.
Another important object of the invention is to provide a gasoline filter attachment of the above mentioned character, wherein the same is of such a construction as to enable the parts to be readily disassembled for the purpose of removing the filter and cleaning the same.
A further object of the invention is to provide a gasoline filter attachment of the above mentioned character. which at all times will be positive and efficient in its op eration and Will not in any way interfere with the operation. of the motor vehicle or the feeding of the gasoline from the vacuum tank to the carburetor.
A still further object is to provide a gasoline filter attachment of the above mentioned'character, which includes a means for cutting off the. gasoline supply to the carburetor when the filtering member has been removed for cleaning purposes.
A still further object is to provide a gasoline filter attachments of the above mentioned character, which is simple in construction. inexpensive, strong and durable and furthermore adapted for the purposes for which it designated.
Other objects and advantages of this invention will become apparent during the course of the following description.

In the drawingwherein for the purpose .of illustration shown the preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 1 designates the-body of the filter attachment, and the eame is provided at its upper end with the reduced threaded portion 2 for attaching the body member to the vacuum vtank A. The portion between the reduced Ithreadcdportion 2 and the main body portion 1 is substantially square as illustrated at 3 for the purposeof providing a means whereby the tool may be used in attaching the body member to the bottom ofthe vac uum tank.
The body member is provided with a longitudinally extending bore 4, the lower portion-oi the body member 1 is provided with an enlarged recess 5 and -the purposethereol' will be presently described. The enlarged recess 5. is adapted to communicate with the bore tof the body member 1 as is clearly illustrated in Figure 2. Threaded into the lower portion of the recess 5 is the plug 6. The lower end of the plug is reduced and externally threaded as illustrated at 7 and is adapted to be connected to the feed pipe 13, the portion above the reduced threaded portion being substantially square as illustrated at 8 to facilitate the attaching of the plug to the feed pipe. The plug 6 is also provided with a longitudinal bore 9 and the same communicates with the bore 4 formed in the body 1 in the manner as illustrated more clearly in Figure 2.
The upper portion of the plug 6 is spaced from the inner wall 10 of the enlarged recess 5 and adapted to be removably supported therebetiveen is the filter designated generally by the numeral 11. In this manner the fi ter may be ren'iovabliy supported within the enlarged recess 5 and between the oomnuinicating bores 4 and 9 respectively so as to cause the gasoline passing from the vacuum tank through the body and the plug to be filtered before entering the feed pipe B and being delivered to the carburetor (not shown). The sediment will be collected by the filter and the filter may be easily and readily removed from' the enlarged recess by removing the plug 6 Whereby the. filter may be cleaned or replaced.
For the purpose of cutting off the supply of fuel from the vacuum tank to the feed pipe when the parts of the attachment are disassembled particularly when the filter is being cleaned, I provided the body with a transversely extending tapered bore 12 through which extends a rotary valve 18, the same having the opening 14 thereof adapted for communication with the bore 4 of the body 1 when in its normal position. A handle 15 is formed on the enlarged outer end of the valve for facilitating the ope ation thereof and a coil spring 16 is associated with the smaller end and the adjacent portion of the body for normally holding the valve in an ope-n position.
The provision of an attachment of the above mentioned character, in the gasoline feed line between the vacuum tank and the carburetor will insure the supply of gasoline to the carburetor in a clean statefree from dirt and other foreign substances, thereby increasing the efliciency in the operation of the engine. Furthermore, the provision of gasoline filter attachment of the above mentioned character, enables the same to be readily and easily disassembled without the loss of any considerable length of time and labor.
While I have shown the preferred embodiment of my invention, it is to be understood that various changes in the size, shape and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention and the scope of the appended claim.
Having thus what I claim is In combination with the fuel feeding means of a motor vehicle including a vacuum tank and feed pipe, of a filter attacl ment associated therewith, comprising a body member, the upper end thereof being threaded into the vacuum tank, said body member having a longitudinal bore, the lower portion of the body having an enlarged recess therein communicating with the bore, a plug threaded into the lower portion of the recess, the lower end of the plug being connected to the feed pipe, said plug having the longitudinal bore therein cominunicating with the aforementioned bore, a
