Description
E. J. HANSEN MULTIPLEX CORE FOR SETS OF PAPER ROLLS Filed Dec. 23, 1922 A F T T Emrl =I-Hansen Patented Feb. 17, 1925 EMIL J. HANSEN, 0F GREEN BAY, WISCONSIN.
MULTIPLEX CORE FOR SETS OF PAPER ROLLS.
Application filed December 23, 1922.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EMIL J. HANSEN, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Green Bay, in the county of Brown and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Multiplex Cores for Sets of Paper Rolls; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
This invention relates to a multiplex core for sets of paper rolls.
In stacking rolls, such for instance as rolls of toilet paper, toweling and similar material, it is diflicult to provide a package which will prevent injury to the rolls and at the same time occupy a minimum amount of space.
This invention is designed to overcome the above noted diiiiculties and to provide a multiplex core for rolls whereby a plurality of rolls may be held in axial alinement in a temporary manner so that they may be readily separated when desired.
Further objects are to provide, as an article of manufacture, a plurality of rolls mounted upon hollow, axially alined, cardboard cores, so organized that the core may be separated and the rolls individually removed without in any manner damaging the rolls, and to provide an organization, such as outlined above, which will facilitate packing and shipping of the rolls.
Embodiments of the invention are shown in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a sectional elevation of one form of the invention showing two rolls in their associated positions.
Figure 2 is a corresponding View of a further form of the invention.
Figure 8 is a section on the line 33 of Figure 1.
Figure l is a section on the line i l oi Figure 2.
Figures 1 and 3 showing one form of the invention will first be described. The rolls, which are chosen for illustration, are toilet Serial No. 608,686.
paper rolls, as indicated at 1 and 2, which are provided with permanent hollow cardboard cores 3 and 4%, respectively. These cores are held in axial alinement by means of a smaller co-extensive hollow cardboard core 5, which is slipped within the main cores 8 and l of the rolls and serves to hold such last mentioned cores in axial alinement temporarily, while permitting the ready removal of the individual rolls and cores. As will be seen from Figures 1 and 3, the core 5 is continuous, while the cores 3 and i are separated.
A further form of the invention is illustrated in Figures 2 and at. In this form the rolls 6 and 7 are provided with an integral continuous core 8, while the rolls 6 and 7 are independent and of the same formation as those previously described. However, the core 8, which is hollow and of cardboard, is weakened at the line oi? division between the rolls 6 and 7 by scoring, by perforation, or in any suitable manner. As shown in the drawing, the core 8 is weakened by a line of perforations 9 which may be elongated in contour, if desired, as shown by the drawings.
Obviously, a number of other methods of weakening the core may be employed, and it is intended that the specific showing of the drawing and of the disclosure, generally, is to be interpreted as illustrative only and not limiting, and that the invention is to be limited only as settorth in the appended claim.
I claim An article of manufacture comprising a plurality of rolls of paper having a common hollow cardboard core, said core having weakened portions between successive rolls.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand at Green Bay, in the county of Brown and State of VVis consin.
EMIL J. HANSEN.
