Be it known that I. BEN E. Bunsen. a citizen of the United. States, residing at Placervillc, in the county of Eldorado and State o1 California. have invented new and useful Improvements in Doul'llc-(lon'ipartment Toilet Bowls or Wh tey-Closets. of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to improvements in toilet bowls or water closets.

The object is to provide a bowl of this character having two compartments provided with seats and closure lids therefor. one seat being oi smaller dimensions and located closer to the floor so as to be easily used by small children without the assistance of an attendant.

Another object is to provide a toilet bowl having the above stated advantageous Tet. tures, which may be readily manufactured in a single unit capable of being secured to the floor through the medium of the usual number of fastening devices attached to a base flange located solely beneath the larger bowl, as in the method of "fastening the ordinary single bowl in general use, the childs seat and compartment forming a part or extension of the major portion of the device, and being elevated above the floor and merging into and communicating with the main bowl to be flushed and drained simultaneously therewith.

In carrying out the invention, I provide a combination bowl having a flushing passage or conduit extending from the usual supply pipe at the back of the main bowl and around the circumferential flange at the top of the same where it is provided with the usual outlet openings, the said passage or conduit being connected by a vertically disposed connection, at a point between the two bowls, with a circumferential flushing conduit surrounding the smaller bowl, thus causing the two bowls to be flushed at the same time.

A full and complete understanding of the invention may be obtained from a consideration of the following detailed description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, it being understood that while the drawing shows a practical form of the invention, the latter is not confined to strict conformity with the showing thereof, but may be changed or modifiech so long as such changes or modifications mark material 1923. Figure 5 is a transverse sectional view taken on the line 5-5 of Figure Referring to the drawing. there is illustrated a main bowl 1 which may be formed of the usual material and in the customary shape or form, having the reduced lower portion 2 terminating in a base flange 3 for the purpose of securing the bowl to the floor. The upper edge of the bowl 1 has the usual circumferentiah inwardly extend: ing flange 4 provided with a continuous water passagewayor conduit 5 extending entirely around the same and having .connection at the back of the bowl 1 with the usual supply pipe 6, which conveys the water under ressure for flushing purposes.

The bottom wall of the flange 4 overhangs the sides of the bowl, and is provided with a series of spaced orifices 7, the same being downwardly and inwardly directed. as shown in Fig. 5, to properly direct the jets of water issuing therefrom in order to thoroughly cleanse the walls of the bowl, as the level of the water therein falls in flushing.

The bowl 1 is equipped with the usual seat 8 in the form of an oval-shaped ring, and hinged to the exterior of the flange a, as at 9, andthe flat, oval-shaped lid 10 is likewise hinged to the said seat, at 11, said seat being adapted to rest, when closed, upon the top wall of the flange of the bowl in the usual manner.

At one side of the bowl 1, there is formed an offset extension 12 somewhat less in width than the width of the said bowl and of oval shape, as viewed from above, the dimensions of said oval being considerably smaller than those of the main bowl. The upper face of the extension is provided with an oval-shaped opening and is located below the upper surface of the main bowl 1, the inwardly extending marginal flange 13 thereof extending entirely around the same and being provided with a continuous channel or conduit 14:, having outlet orifices 15 as in the main bowl. A ring or seat 16 is hinged in position on the upper surface of the extension which constitutes a seat for a child, and the lid 17 is likewise hinged to said seat for closing the same in the same manner as the lid 10, and it will be seen by reference to the drawing, that each seat is hinged at the rear, narrow end of each oval shaped bowl, and are adapted to swing upwardly and rearwardly to uncover their respective bowls The wall of the main bowil, contiguous to the extension 12, is somewhat thicker than the remainder of the bowl, as indicated at 18, and is provided with a vertically disposed port or passageway 19 connecting the channel or conduit 5 with the channel or conduit lt of the small'bowl, so that when the water is admitted through the supply pipe 6, both bowls are simultaneously flushed, the lower wall 20 of the smaller bowl being inclined towards the reduced, pedestal portion 2 or" the main bowl to cause the contents of the same to flow with the jets of water through the orifices 7 and 15, through the base of the main bowl and down through the drain pipe to the sewer.

When the main bowl is in use, the lid of the supplemental bowl or extension 12may or may not be raised, and it will be seen that either seat may be occupied without disturbing the other, the smaller bowl with the lower seat being readily uncovered for use, by a small child, who may easily raise he lid 17 and be seated on the said bowl without the necessity for an attendant.

From the foregoing it will be seen that a simple, cheaply manufactured and easily installed double compartment toilet bowl, or water closet has been provided which, when the proper amount of water is automatically maintained at the proper level by the common controlling valve arrangement in general use, may be used by an adult or a child without soiling the walls. of the bowl or the extension, and that the flushing action for the larger bowl also takes care of the Hushing of the smaller bowl by one operation.

What is claimed is 1. A double compartment toilet bowl,

smaller bowl offset from the main bowl and formed by an extension thereof, the top of the smaller bowl being below the plane of the top ofthe main bowl, and the bottom merging into the bottom of the main bowl, and a substantially continuous water conduit at the top of both bowls, each having discharge orifices, communicating with a source of water supply, wherebv both bowls are simultaneously flushed.

2. A double compartment toilet bowl comprising a main bowl, a second or smaller bowl ofi'set'from the main-bowl and formed by an extension thereof, the top of the smaller bowl being below the plane of the main bowl and the bottom draining into the bottom it the main bowl, and means at the top of both bowls wherebv thev are simultaneously flushed.

A double compartment toilet bowl comprising main bowl having a reduced lower portion provided with abas e flan'gefor attachment to the floor, said bowl being open at the upper end and provided with a rim flange having acontinuous channel provided with spaced orifices, a water supply pipe connecting with said channeh'a second bowl of smaller dimensions arrangeda't' one side of and formed integrally with the main bowl and open at the upper end on'a plane below the seat of the same, said second b'owl having a similar channel in communication with the first channel and provided with orifices for simultaneous flushing therewith, and communicating with the mainbowl to drain thereinto.

4. A. double compartment toilet bowl comprising a main bowl having an open top and a bottom drain, a marginal flange formed around the top and provided with a continuous channel having spaced orifices in the lower wall thereof and communicating with the interior of the bowl, a smaller bowl formed integrally at one side of and below the top of the main bowl, said smaller bowl draining into the same and havinga top margil'la'l flange provided with a channel and outlet orifices, a vertically disposed passage connecting the channels" of the two bowls, and a water supply pipe connected to the main channel to cause simultaneous flushing of the bowls;
