REENFORGING DEVICE.
Application filed. May 4, 1925.
To all 107mm it may concern. Be it known that I, CHARLES DRAKE, citizen of the United States. residing at Mannington, in the county or" Marion and 5 State of 'VVest Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Re enforcing Devices, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to roentorcing devices or braces and more particularly to a corner brace for skeleton towers, such as derricks or the like.
An object of the invention is to provide a brace adapted to be secured to the leg of a derrick and to the adjacent ends of the struts or girths connected to said leg.
A further object of the invention is to provide' a brace of the character described that may be applied to any ordinary form of derrick strut or brace and which will reenforce the structure and hold the braces rigidly at the desired angle to each other.
In the accompanying drawings, I have shown one embodiment of the invention. In this showing:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a portion of a derrick showing'the invention applied.
Figure 2 is a horizontal sectional view substantially on line 2-2 of Figure 1.

V Referring to the drawings, the reference numeral 1 designates the legs of a derrick which may be formed of any desired mate rial and which, as shown, may be formed of angle irons. The derrick is provided with horizontal members 2 forming struts or braces between the legs of the derrick in the usual manner and secured to the derrick legs in any suitable manner, as by means of bolts or rivets 5. The brace forming the subject matter of the present invention consists of a triangular member formed of arms 3 arranged substantially parallel to the horizontal braces, and a transverse arm or base.

In the form of the invention shown, the arms 3 are formed of angle iron and the bolts pass through the vertical portion of these arms. It is, of course, understood that the arms may be formed of material of any suitable cross section and secured to the legs in a suitable manner. The horizontal portions of the arms are arrangedover each other, as shown in Figures 3 and 4t and a bolt (3 is passed through suitable openings to se- 50 cure them to each other. The outer ends of the arms 3 are secured to the arms at by means of bolts 7. These base arms 4: extend over the horizontal braces and the ends of the arms are extended downwardly around 5 the horizontal brace, as indicated at 8. A bolt 9 is then passed through the arm 3, and. the end 8 ot the arm 4 to clamp the parts to each other.
The operation of the device will be ap- 7o parent from the foregoing description. The arms 3 and 4 of the brace are provided with openings at the proper place before assembly and then placed in position. The clamping ends 8 of the arms a are bent around the derrick strut so as to conform to the general outline of the cross section of the strut and then clamped in position by means of the bolt 9.
It is to be understood that the form'of my 30 invention herewith shown and described is to be taken as a preferred example of the same, and that various changes in the shape, size, and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claims.
I claim:
1. In a device of the character described,
a brace for derricks or the like comprising a pair of arms having their outer ends secured to the derrick leg and extending substantially parallel to the adjacent horizontal struts oi the derrick, and a base member extending across said arms adjacent their opposite ends 9 and secured thereto, said base member being extended beyond said arms and having its end portions embracing said horizontal struts.
2. In a device of the character described,
a brace for derricks or the like comprising a pair of arms having their outer ends secured to the derrick leg and extending substantially parallel to the adjacent horizontal struts of the derrick, a base member extending across said arms adjacent their opposite ends and secured thereto, the ends of said base members being extended beyond said arms and around said horizontal struts, and fastening members extending through the ends of said base members, and said arms.
