,UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ARTHUR C. JACKSON, 01 PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR TO THE YALE AND TOWNE MANUFACTURING COMPANY, OF STAMFORD, CONNECTICUT, A COR- PORATION OF CONNECTICUT.
PROTECTING COVER FOR PADLOCKS.
Application filed October 8, 1923. Serial No. 667,285.
T 0 all whom it-may comm:
Be it known that LARTHUR C. acxson, a citizen of the United States, res ding in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, have invented certain Improvements in Protecting Covers mobile.
A further object of the invention is to design the cover so that it will prevent water gaining access to the interior of the pad and has a body portion forming a back por tion 4 of the cover. A front portion 5 is stitched to the back portion at (3, thus forming a pocket 7 for the padlock. The back portion has three tongues 8, 9 and 10, which are shaped as shown in Fig. 3, and are spaced apart to accommodate the shackle 2 of the lock. The tongue 8 is arranged to extend through the-opening of the shackle, While the tongues 9 and 10 are passed diagonally over the upper ends of the lock outside of the shackle, as shown clearly in Fig. 1.
11 designates a snap pin of the usual type. The tongues 9 and 10 are perforated at 12 and 13. The perforations are of sufiicient size to allow the tongues to pass over the pin 11. Carried by the central tongue 8 is a snap fastening 14. The socket is shaped to engage the pin 11, and thereby retain the cover in the closed position, as illustrated in Figs. 1. and 2. The cover can be placed on the look after the shackle has assed through an eye and the lock is closed? As this cover is made of leather, or other suitable material, the metal portions of a lock are prevented from coming in contact with the metallic portions of the automobile, and rain and moistureare prevented from entering the body of the lock.
While the cover is preferably made of leather, rubber, or other suitable material, may be substituted therefor.
I claim:
1. A cover for a padlock having a pocket for the body of the lock and three tongues spaced apart, the. central tongue being arranged to pass through the space formed by the shackle, the other two tongues being arranged to close the opening in the pocket outside of the shackle; and a fastening device by Which the tongues are secured to the casing.
2. A cover fora padlock made of leather, or other suitable material, having a pocket to receive the body of the lock; two side tongues arranged to fold diagonally over the pocket and to close the openings or each side of the shackle of the lock; a snap pin onthe pocket portion of the cover, the tongues being perforated to pass over the pin: and a central tongue arranged to extend through the shackle and having a snap tastening for engaging the pin.
ARTHUR o. JAoKsoN.
