Be it known that l, KARL BoMHAnD, a citizen of the German Republic, residing at Munich, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Vaginal Syringes, of which thefollowing is a-specification. V This invention has reference to improvements in vaginal irrigating syringes and relates more specifically toadevice of the return-flow character, in which the cleansing or medicinal fluid is 'introduced'at the front end of the'vaginaand is withdrawn again therefrom at the innermost portion after having been in intimate contact with the entire surface of the vagina, special means being provided to prevent the flesh folds from occluding the outlet orifice of the syringe, which would prevent the fluid from running off.

The device essentially comprises the outer inflow or mantle member 1 from whichilaterally communicatingly extends the nipple branch member 2, and the outflow member 3 arranged within the member 1 with capability of relative axial and rotary displacement. The inflow member 1 is contracted at its one end, as at 4, and it is provided at its other end with inwardly directed interspaced projections 5, obtained by correspondingly depressin the tubewall to provlde seating recesses orthe thickened rim 6 of a bell-shaped cuff or shield 7 of suitable material, preferably soft rubber, designed to occlude the mouth of the vagina for preventing leakage therefrom of the douching fluid.

As there is no internal pressure to overcome, owing to the complete absence of air pockets or; other resistance, the whole system thus being at all times under atmospheric pressure, any change in the relative position of the-receptacles will only. alter the rategof flow of the liquid. It is thus possible by positioning supply tank, waste tank and syringe on practically the same level to retain the liquid stationary within the vagina for any desired period.
Though I have described and shown the new deviceras introducing the douche fluid through the outer member and withdrawing it again through the inner member, I want it to beparticularly understood that I can just as well cause. the fluid to flow in reverse direction, that is to say, I can introduce it through the inner member and run it oif again through theoutermember, without in any way interfering with the underlying theoretical considerations or afl'ecting the specific construction of the device. I am, however, satisfied that to reverse the flow of the irrigating fluid will, to some extent, lower the efliciency of the operation, and for this reason I ham-specifically described the more efficient procedure.
