'M. P. EXLINE IDENTIFICATION DEVICE FOR TOOTHBRUSHES,
Filed May 22, 1925 gmmtov J azmsfil'zzbhe Patented Got. 27, 1925.
entree STATES MARCUS P. EXLINE, OF DALLAS, TEXAS.
IDENTIFICATION DEVICE FOR TOO'IH'BRUSHES.
Application filed May 22, 1925. Serial No. 32,680.-
To allwhom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, Millions EXLINE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Dallas, in the county of Dallas and State of Texas, have invented certain new and use- ,ful improvements in Identification Devices for Toothbrushes; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to a device for identifying articles, such as tooth brushes, by means of which confusion with similar articles may be avoided.
The object of the present invention is to provide identifying means which maybe economically manufactured with a variety of identifying marks thereon and applied without tools and in a simple and permanent manner to the articles to be identified.
In this manner tooth brushes, for instance, may be provided with an identifying member bearing distinctive indicia to be selected by a customer from a variety of brushes in the druggists stock and quickly and permanently applied without to-tils.
By means of this invention, the choice of brushes is increased, while at the same time suitable identif ing marks may be applied as desired to the particular brush selected.
The invention consists of the novel construction arrangement and combination of parts as hereinafter and more particularly described and claimed (hie sheet of drawings accompanies this specification as part thereof, in which like reference characters indicate like parts throughout.
Fig. l is a perspective view of'a tooth brush showing an improved identifying n ember in position.
rig. 2 is a fragmentary perspective viewof a part of the handle preliminary to applying the identifying member.
Fig. is a longitudinal cross sectional view through a handle showing the identifyingmember in its initial position preliminary to being secured on the handle.
Fig. 4 is a similar longitudinal cross sec tional view through a portion of the handle showing the identifying member in. its attached position.
Fig. 5 is a transverse sectional view taken through the handle and through the stud hereinafter described.
Fig. 6v is a bottom plan, view of the improved identifying member.
In accordance with the present invention, the handle of the brush is provided with a stud 3, which is preferably integral with the handle and formed by a groove 2 cut or molded in the handle.
The improved identifying member consists of a disk 4 having upon its outer face suitable indicia 5 and having its peripheral edge inturned as at 6 to secure a second disk member 7 provided with a plurality of peripheral prongs, which are normally directed toward the center and outwardly with respect to the major plane of the de vice. The circle defined by the points of the prongs Sis of a diameter substantially the same as that of the stud 3 formed in the brush handle 1.
In operation, the identifying member 4L is applied to the handle with the prongs 8 in engagement with the upper peripheral edge of the stud 3 and then pressed into the groove 2, thereby forcing the prongs 8 over the stud 3 and modifying their angular relation so that they point toward the center, but inwardly and upwardly toward the major plane of the device whereby withdrawal of the identifying member is rendered impractical without mutilating the handle.
Various modifications in the number, shape and structure of the identifying member may be made without departing from the spirit of the present invention, as specified in the claims.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:
1. The combination of an article having a stud defined by a surrounding groove and an identifying member comprising a plate with a down turned peripheral flange adapted to seat in said groove and means for securing the plate to the stud comprising a icle having a wove and with a down tmm ed to seat 1T1 Silh'l .1: s0-
