c. J. JOHNSON POGKETBOOK PROTECTOR Filed April 1. 1924 Patented Sept. 8, 1925.
CARL JOB JOHNSON,
PATENT OFFICE.
OF DALLAS, TEXAS.
POCKETBOOK PROTECTOR.
Application filed April 1,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that CARL Jon JorINsoN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Dallas, in the county of Dallas and State of Texas, has invented new and useful Improvements in Pocketbook Protectors, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention has for its purpose to provide, in a pocket-book holder, a construotion of clip, one arm of which may engage and overlie the pocket-book, the other arm engaging' and overlying the exterior surface of the pocket, with means to engage with the wall of the pocket to prevent displacement of the holder.
It is well known that persons when leaning over are very apt to lose their pocketbooks by the same sliding from the pocket. Furthermore, if the pocket is exposed, it is possible that the pocket-book may be quickly withdrawn unnoticed by the owner.
It is another purpose of the present in vention to provide a device not only guarding against the loss of the pocket-book by dropping from the pocket when leaning over but protecting the same against theft.
It is to be understood that the particulars herein given are in no Way limitative and that while still keeping within the scope of no the invention, any desired modifications of detail and desired proportions may be made in the apparatus according to the circumstances.
The invention comprises further features 3.7 and combinations of parts to be hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawings and claimed.
In the drawings:
Figure l is a perspective View of a portion to of apparel, showing a pocket with a pocketbook therein and the protector applied.
Figure 2 is a sectional view on line 22 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is an enlarged detail perspective 1924. Serial No. 703,475.
view of the protector or holder detached from the pocket and the pocket-book.
Referring to the drawings, 1 designates a pocket of an apparel, 2 a pocketbook, and 3 the protector or holder.
The protector or holder is constructed from spring sheet metal bent upon itself to form a loop 4. The arms or opposite sides 5 of the strip of metal beyond the loop are disposed to converge toward their clamping ends. The extremities of the arms are out- 65 wardly bent, as shown at 6, so that the holder or protector easily engages with the pocket-book and the wall of the pocket. In other words, the outwardly bent ends constitute means to cause the arms to spread when said ends are engaged with the upper edges of the pocket-book and the edge of the wall. of the pocket.
One of the arms of the protector has a spur 7 struck up therefrom and so deflected as to permit the arm to slide over the exterior surface of the pocket wall when engaging the holder with the pocket and to prick or engage with the pocket wall and prevent upward movement of the holder in case an attempt is made to detach the holder.
The invention having been set forth, what is claimed is:
A pocket-book protector or holder com prising a body having a spring loop defining oppositely disposed spring arms arranged in convergent relation, the terminals of the arms being outwardly turned, one of them having unobstructed surfaces and the other having a spur arranged at an inclination to slide over the surface of the pocket wall when engaging the holder therewith and to impinge in the material of the latter to preclude movement of the holder in the opposite direction.
In testimony whereof he afiixes his signature.
CARL JOB JOHNSON.
