Be it known that I, EUGENE B. ANDES, a

citizen of the United States, residing at Lancaster, in the county of Lancaster and State 5 of Pennsylvania, (my post-'office address being 24 North Marshall St), have invented certain new and. useful Improvements in ToyFirearms, of which the following is a specification.

The primary object of my invention is to provide a toy firearm in which means'are provided for preventing back-fire, flash or splash, which are liable to injure the operator.

With this object in view, one form of the invention resides, comprehensively stated, in a toy pistol, or the like, havinga cup-shaped hammer-head, Jfor the reception of the paper cap, in combination with an anvil, the anvil 20 and the hammer-head being lof differing diameters, so that, when the hammer-head is in a position of impact against'the anvil, the

side wall of the hammer head is spaced from the perimeter of the anvil.

The invention resides, more specifically, in a hammer-head, as recited, provided, on the impact-face thereof, with a central raised-v portion, forming a groove t-herearound, fa- .cil-itating the exit from the cup of the flame,

gases, and noise of explosion.

The invention resides, finally, in the precise novel construction, combination, and arrangement of parts lof a toy firearm, as will be hereinafter fully described in the specification, summarized in the claims, and illusv trated in the accompanying drawing, forming part of this specification andin which like yreference-characters denote corresponding parts throughout the several figures.

Referring, now, in detail, to the drawings, and, first, to Figs'l to 3 thereof: As is customary in the construction of toy pistols, rifles, and like pieces of ordnance made as playthings, my toy pistol is made in sectional form, the sections being cast and united by screws, or otherwise.

My toy firearm may take any one of several forms. As shown, it is in the form of a pistol for exploding paper caps. It comprises two sides or sections, each denoted by the reference-numeral 1, and virtually dupllcates of each other. The sections may be united in any one of several. ways, as by rivets,-screws 2 being shown iin the `drawing, passing through registerin openings.

One of the sections' carries t e triggerand-hammer fulcrum-pin 3 and a diskshaped anvil 4. The anvil, however, may be of other forms than disk-shaped.

My hammer and trigger are formed integral, 'as usual in toy pistols, the trigger portion being designated by'-the reference-numeral 5 and the hammer portion by the reference-numeral 6. This combined hammer and trigger is provided with a recess or slot extending inward from one side of the hammer-and-trigger piece f (as distinguished from the conventional hole or aperture found' in toy-pistol hammer-and-trigger pieces, as customarily constructed),lwh1ch facilitates casting the hammer-and-trigger rece. p :The hammer-portion 6 is peculiarly formed. It is provided with an annular rim or flange 8 projecting forwardly of the pistol, and of a diameter relative to the anvil 4 to rovide'a space between the rim and anvil w en the hammer is in impact posi- Ation against the anvil. It will be understood that the paper caps are placed within the cup portion ofthe .hammerKand not in a recess in the anvil,

Referring, now, in detail to Figs. 4 and 5:

These Ifigures show a construction of pistol, in which the combustion-chamber, instead of being on the hammer, as in the preceding figures, is on the anvil 4. The anvil is cup-shaped, as shown, and the bottom of the cup is provided witha raised central portion 4a, forming therearound a groove 4b. In this form of pistol, the hammer and anvil occupy ositions the reverse of those shown in the evice of the preceding figures. 6 designates the hammer, and 7 the trigger.

It will be. seen that the principle of construction and operation is the same in both forms ofy my invention.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters-Patent is:

l. A toy pistol comprising the combination of an anvil and a hammer, said hammer being provided with a forwardly-projecting marginal flange spaced from the perimeter of said anvil in the position of impact of said hammer, the striking-face of said hammer being provided with a central liring-projection adapted to impinge against said anvil.

2. A toy pistol comprising the combination of an anvil and a combined trigger and hammer, said hammer being provided With a forwardly-projecting marginal lange spaced from the perimeter of said anvil in the position of impact of the hammer, the striking-face of sald hammer being provided with a central iring-proection adapted to impinge against said anvi 3. A toy pistol comprising the combination of an anvil and a combined trigger and hammer having a ulcrum-pin slot extending inward from one side edge thereof, said hammer being provided with a forwardly-projecting marginal flange spaced from the perimeter of said anvil in the position of impact of the hammer, the striking-face 'ofr said hammer being provided with a central firing-projection adapted to impinge against said anvil.

4:. A toy pistol comprising the. combination of an anvil. and a combined trigger and hammer having a fulcrum-pin slot eX- tending inward fromI one side edge thereof,

said hammer being provided with a for;

wardly-projecting marginal flange spaced from the perimeter of said anvil in the position of impact of the hammer.
