Description
ALEDSTROM.
BAG HOLDER.
APPLICATION FILED APR. 11, I921.
Patented Jan. 17,1922.
UNITED STATES ALBERT EDSTROM, OF DULUTH, MINNESOTA.
BAG HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 1'7, 1922.
Application filed April 11, 1921. Serial No. 460,169.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALBERT EDsrRoM, a citizen of the United States, residing at Duluth, in the county of St. Louis and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bag Holders, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to bag holders and has special reference to a specific form of bag engaging member.
One object of the invention is to produce a novel form of such member that will securely hold the bag without resulting in damage thereto.
Another object is to produce such a device that will firmly hold the bag in the most desirable position possible.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will appear in the further description thereof.
Referring to the accompanying drawing forming part of this application in which like reference characters indicate like parts:
Figure'l is a perspective view of a bag holder equipped with my improved members and having a bag suspended therefrom;
Figure 2 is a reduced top plan view of the holding members; and V Figure 3 is an enlarged end elevation of one of the members.
1 represents a fiat base upon which the upright standards 2 are mounted, one of which standards is pivotally and resiliently mounted upon the base, as at 3, so as to nor-- mally result in the uppermost ends of the standards remaining in their maximum spaced relation to each other, such construction being common and well known in the art and which does not form a part of my present invention.
The upper ends of each standard 2 are provided with a goose-neck attachment 4, to which is integrally formed a straight horizontally disposed bag engaging member 5, .said member being preferably of comparatively thin flat form in cross section, but disposed upon its edge vertically.
At each extreme end of the member 5 is formed an arcuately shaped lip 6 disposed at right angles to the body portion of the member 5 and outwardly in respect to a bag suspended thereupon, and just above each lip 6 upon the extreme ends of the members 5 are formed upwardly arched projections 7.
The arcuately shaped somewhat sharpened as at 8 upon their outermost edges for the secure holding of the upper edge of the bag without damaging same, and the bag is designed to be suspended upon the lips 5, as illustrated in the drawing, when no abnormal downward stress upon the bag is anticipated when filling same. However if an additionally secure holding of the bag is desired, the upper edges thereof may be drawn completely up and over the projection 7 upon. the ends of the bars 5 which will result in a doubly secure holding of the bag.
The members 5, being perfectly straight, result in the corners of the bag when held being as nearly right angular as possible, which in practice has proven to be the most desirable position of the bag to cause it to retain its properly supported form against a tendency to fall when being filled and which is a very important feature in connection with a successfully operative bag holder.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
The combination with a straight horizontally disposed bag supporting arm or" the character described, of an arcuately shaped horizontally disposed bag engaging lip adjacent each end or" the arm and an upwardly extending arcuately shaped cooperative bag engaging lip adjacent said first mentioned lip, substantially as and for the purpose described.
In testimony whereof I hereunto afiix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
ALBERT EDSTROM.
