PROPELLENT POWDER TO BE USED IN GUNS AND HOWI'IZERS.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JOHN B. FIDLAR, captain, Ordnance Department, U. S. Arm a citizen of the United States, statione at Picatinny Arsenal, Dover, New Jersey, have invented an Improvement in Propellent Powder to be Used in Guns and Howitzers, of which the following is a specification.
The invention described herein ma be 11% used by the Government, or any of its 0 cers or employees in prosecution of work for the Government, or b any other person in the United States, wit out payment to me of any royalty thereon.
The subject of this invention is a propellent powder to be used in and howitzer-s.
The main object of the invention 'is the production of a flashless non-hygroscopic ac proplellent powder which may be produced in t 0 form of a single or multi-perforated cylinder, similar to the present form of cannon powder grain.
In carrying out my invention I combine 2% a nitrocellulose with a flame reducing indient 'such as starch and overcome the ygroscopic features introduced into the powder by the starch by the use of nitrohydrocarbon, for example, dinitrotoluene, and to the composition may be added, if desired, a stabilizing reagent, for example, diphenylamine.
A preferred mixture is given by way of illustration and consists of Nitrocellulose, 80 plus or minus 10 parts. Starch, 10 plus or minus 5 parts. Dinitrotoluene, 10 plus or minus 5 parts. Diphenylamine, 0.5 plus or minus 0.5
