UNETEE STATEfi PATENT QFFlQE.
SCRUBBRUSH HOLDER.
Application filed January 15, 1923. Serial No. 612,848.
T all whom it may concern:
Be it known. that 1, Yves ARNANDEZ, a citizen of the United States, residing at New Iberia, in the parish of Iberia and State of Louisiana, have invented a new and useful Scrubbrush Holder, of which the following is a specification.-
This invention relates to scrub brush holders.
The object of the invention is to provide a holder for detachable connection with an ordinary scrub brush which will securely clamp the brush and hold it rigidly connected with the handle and yet will have suliicient resiliency to permit pressure to be exerted on the brush when held at an angle.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed may be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 represents a top plan view of a holder constructed in accordance with this invention shown applied;
Fig. 2 is atransverse section thereof taken on the line 22 of Fig. 1, and
Fig. 3 is a detail plan view of the parts in section to show the swiveled connection of the clamp actuating screw.
In the embodiment illustrated, a scrub brush 1 is shown of ordinary construction, having the usual wooden head 2 and bristles S, the head being provided with grooves 4e 4 in the opposed side edges.
The holder constituting this invention comprises a metal plate 5 having laterally extending front and rear flanges 6 and 7, the front fiange 6 being bent slightly inward to adapt its edge to enter the groove 4; in one side of the brush head.
A cooperating clamping plate 8 is mounted between the rear flange 7 and the brush head and has a transversely convex outer face as shown clearly in Fig. 2, which is adapted to enter the groove 4 in the head and in connection with the flange 6 securely clamp the holder to the brush when the screw 9 is screwed up.
The clamping bar or plate 8 extends the full width of the cooperating plate 5 and securely holds the head of the brush against wobbling when in operative position.
- The screw 9 has a swiveled connection with the bar 8 and extends through a threaded aperture in a boss 10 on flange 7.
A threaded stud 11 extends upwardly from the plate 5 at the center thereof and passes through a longitudinally extending slot 12 formed in a metal strip 18, which strip is arranged transversely of the plate 5 and carries at its outer end a handle 15. A wing nut 14: is mounted on the threaded stud 11 and when screwed up, securely clamps the strip 13 to the plate 5. The slot 12 provides for the adjustment of the handle relatively to the head,.the strip 13 being preferably curved longitudinally as shown clearly in Fig. 2, to vary the angle of the handle 15 in relation to the brush.
From the above description it will be obvious that the holder herein shown, when applied as herein set forth, will securely hold the brush 1 against movement and the strip 13 being comparatively resilient, will permit pressure to be exerted on the brush when tilted at an angle.
Various changes in the form, shape, proportion and other minor details of construction may be made without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of the claimed invention.
I claim 2- Aliolder of the class described including a plate to span a brush head and of a width slightly greater than. the width of said head, said plate having laterally extending side flanges projecting in the same direction, one of said flanges being bent inwardly to enter a groove in said head, a bar mounted in the other flange and adjustable toward and away from said flange, said bar having a transversely curved inner face to enter a groove in the adjacent side of the brush head, a screw adjustable in said flange and swiveled to-said bar to clampingly connect the holder on a brush head, a handle having a metal strip extending longitudinally from one end and slotted longitudinally, said strip being curvedlongitudinally, a threaded as my own, I have hereto affixed my signastud projecting laterally from the outer face ture in the presence of two Witnesses. of said plate and passed through the slot in said strip, and a Wing nut mounted on YVES ARNANDEZ. said stud to clampingly connect said strip Witnesses: to said plate. KATIE BURNHAM,
In testimony that I claim the foregoing K. DE V. CRAIG.
