Description

Sept. 11, 1923. 1,4675% 5. P. MISTRO'IL CLOTHES HOOK Filed May 19 1922 Patented Sept. 11, 1923.
SIMEON P. MISTROT, OF GALVESTON, TEXAS.
CLOTHES HOOK.
Application filed May 19, 1922.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SLMEON P. MISTROT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Galveston, in the county of Galveston and State of Texas, have invented a new and useful Clothes Hook, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a clothes hook. one of its objects being to provide a simple and inexpensive device of this character which can be formed of wire or other material and is so shaped as to provide efiicient means for holding a coat or skirt in the same manner as is possible with an ordinary coat hanger, there being additional means for supporting a hat or other garment.
Another object is to provide devices of this character which can be used in lieu of the old forms of clothes or garment hooks simply by screwing them into supporting structures.
\Vith the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the descriptimi proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that, within the scope of what is claimed, changes in the precise embodiment of the invention shown can be made without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the accompanying drawing which is a perspective view of the device, the preferred form of the invention has been shown.
Referring to the drawing by characters of reference 1 designates a stem formed by threading one end portion of a stiff wire, this wire being looped to provide straight parallel arms 2 and 3 the merging portions of which are upturned as at at to form the terminal of a hook designed to support a hat or other garment. That end of the arm 3 nearest the threaded portion 1 is bent downwardly over the arm 2 to provide a depending arm 5 the lower portion of which is curved forwardly as at 6 and upwardly as at 7 where it merges into the lower portion of a laterally extended loop 8. The end portions or terminals of the loop are preterably downturned as shown at 9 in Figure 2 so that a coat hanger is thus provided. A
Serial No. 562,111.
member 10 is extended from the bottom portion of the loop 8 and extends parallel with the parts 7, 6 and 5, this portion .10 terminating in a coil 11 which is formed around that portion of the arm 2 nearest the threaded end 1.
It will be apparent that by shaping the wire as described and shown the article produced can be connected readily to a supporting structure simply by screwing the end 1 into the structure until the depending arm 5 comes against the structure so as to be braced thereby. Thus a garment can he placed on the upturned portion 4 while a coat, skirt or the like can be placed on the hanger 8. It will be noted that arm 5 loops or crosses over arm 2 and where arm 5 merges into arm 3 it is engaged by the coiled end 11 of arm 10. Thus any load to which arms 5 and 10 may be subjected will be supported by the arm 2. Consequently both arms 5 and 10 serve to support garments placed on loop 8. The coil 11 is carried solely by the arm 3 and constitutes a means for holding the arms 2 and 3 properly spaced apart where the arms 5 and 10 are located. Thus the rigidity of the loop formed by the arms 2 and 3 is increased.
While the device has been shown and described as made of stifi wire it is to be understood that it can be formed of any other suitable material. Furthermore the hat hook can be dispensed with if so desired.
- \Vhat is claimed is 2- A clothes hook formed in a single length of wire bent to form an elongated loop having straight parallel arms, a support engaging screw formed by one end of one of the arms, a depending portion extending over and downwardly from the screw-carrying arm and merging into a forwardly extending portion upturned at one end and merging into the lower portion of a laterally extended loop, and a member integral with and extending from the bottom portion of said loop and parallel with the depending arm and its forward extension, said member having a terminal coil engaging that arm of the elongated loop from which the depending arm extends, the screw-carrying arm being extended between the depending arm and that portion paras my own, I have hereto afiixed my signaallel therewith and constituting a support ture in the presence of two Witnesses. for a load carried by both the depending arm and the member parallel therewith, the said SIMEON MISTRO'L 5 coil constituting means for spacing the side \Vit'ness'es:
portions of the elongated loop. T. W. HoEoKER,
In testimony that I claim the foregoing E. B. MA'ITHEWS.
