Be it known that I, CHRISTIAN VEHLING, a citizen of the United States, residing at Indianapolis, in the county of Marion and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ornamental Lamp Stands, of which the following is a specification. f

This invention relates to an ornamental lamp stand. and the prime feature of the invention is the provision ofa base portion for the stand having ornamentations attached thereto.

A further feature of the invention is the provision of means for supporting bulb receiving sockets on the base portion of the stand.

A further feature of the invention is in so constructing and assembling the various parts from which the stand is constructed that it may be produced at a minimum cost and at the same time rendered strong and durable as well as ornamental.

And a further feature of the invention is the provision of means for conveying wires through parts of the stand to the bulb holding sockets and in such manner as to conceal such wires from view.

Qther objects and advantages will be hereinafter more fully set forth and pointed out in the accompanying specification. In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is an elevation of the stand showing the bulb receiving sockets mounted thereon, and

Referring to the drawings, 1 indicates the base or pedestal of the stand which is preferably constructed of a hollow tube or shell, the lower end 2 being preferably solid and integral with the base while a removable cap 3 is provided for the upper end of the base, the cap being secured to the base in any suitable manner, as by providing clips 4 preferably angular in shape, the horizontal portion of the clips passing below the cap 3 and secured thereto by bolts 5 while the vertical portions of the clips are secured to the wall of the base by bolts 6.

Positioned around the periphery of the base 1 and in spaced relation with each other are metal strips 7 which are preferably outwardly bowed between their ends, and said M ends are preferably curled so as to form scroll sections 8 and 9 at the lower and upper ends respectively of said strips, the bolts6 also serving to hold the upper ends of the, strips in engagement with the base while additional bolts 10 are employed for securing the lower portions of the strips to the base. For the purpose of further ornamenting and beautifying the stand, imitation roses 11 or other ornamentations are attached at various points upon the metal strips 7 imitation vines or stems 12 being twined around the metal strips 7 and extending from one flower to another, and if preferred imitation leaves 13 may be secured to the metal strips.

Positioned above the base 1 are globe holding sockets 14 which may be of the usual or any preferred construction. said sockets being connected with a head 15 which is in turn connected with a tube 16, said tube hav- .75 ing a base 17 at its lower end to which are attached the upper ends of supporting brackets 18 while the lower ends of said brackets are connected preferably to the upper ends of certain of the metal strips 7. W The brackets 18 are rendered. ornamental by forming spiral twists therein, the ends of the brackets being likewise bentinto the form of scrolls 19. the scrolls 19 at the lower ends of the brackets registering with and B5 resting upon the scrolls 9 at the upper ends of the strips 7, screws 20 being employed for securing the brackets to the strips.

The base 17 is preferably positioned a distance above the upper end of the base 1 and in order to exclude from view the wires 21, which pass upwardly through the base 1 and into the tube 16. a sleeve 22 is extended from the cap 3 to the base 17, the wires 21 passing through the sleeve. This form of stand, together with the ornamentations thereon, is preferably formed entirely of metal and while imitation roses are shown as forming a part of the ornamentation it will be readily understood that any preferred design or ornamentation may be used and likewise any preferred form of ornamental strips may be attached to the base portion of the stand,

Having thus fully described my said invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:

1. In an ornamental lamp stand, a cylindrical base of uniform diameter throughout its length and having a solid integral lower end and open at its upper end, a cap fitting over the open end of said base, clips within said base, bolts for removably securing said clips to said cap and base, a plurality of strips eXteriorly of said base and extending from end to end thereof, a portion of the lower ends of'said strips extending parallel with said base and the remainder of the strips above said paralleling portions being outwardly bowed, means for ornamenting said strips, and bulb supporting sockets above said base.

2. In an ornamental lamp stand, a hollow base, a cap at the upper end oi said base, angular shaped clips securing said cap to said base, a plurality of fiat metal strips secured t0 the periphery of said base, said strips being outwardly bowed between their ends and of a uniform width and thickness throughout their length, means for ornamenting said strips, bulb supporting socket-s above said base, brackets for supporting said sockets, means for ornamenting said brackets, and means for attaching the brackets to certain of said metal strips.

3. In an ornamental lamp stand, a cylindrical base of uniform diameter throughout its length having an open upper end and an integral closure at its lower end, a cap fitting over the open end of said base, angular shaped clips within said base, means for removably securing said clips to said base andcap, a plurality of ornamented strips extending lengthwise of said base and attached to the exterior thereof, the ends of said strips having scroll sections at their ends, bulb supporting sockets, means for supporting said sockets above said base, and brackets having one of their ends attached to said bulb supporting means and their opposite ends to the scroll portions of certain of said ornamented strips.
