the art to which it appertains to make and use the invention, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon which form a part of this specification.
Figure 1 is a side view of the invention as applied.
Figure 2 is a bottom plan View of the same.

Figure 4 is a detail central vertical section of the toe part of the protector.
Figure 5 shows detail perspective views of the parts of the removable calk.
This invention has relation to toe and heel protectors for boots and shoes or rubbers, designed to prevent wear upon said parts especially during the coasting season, the
object being to provide an improved calk v for this purpose.
The invention consists in the novel construction and combinations of parts, as here inafter set forth.
In the accompanying drawings illustrating the invention, the numeral 1 designates the toe protector or protectoe, the bottom of the protectoe being parallel with the shoe sole toe portion, and provided with a marginal series of perforations 2 wherein are located pointed projections or calks 3. The rear edge of the protectoe is rolled at 1- to prevent chafing, and a flannel lining 5 is provided throughout.
6 is the heel portion of the protector heel, the bottom being parallel with the bottom of the heel and provided also with a marginal series of perforations 7 wherein are locarted pointed projections or ca-lks'8, the upper edges being rolled at 9 to prevent chaf- The toe and heel protectors are connected by suitable strap or chain means shown at 10, and engaging openings 11 vof the protectors, the strap or chain having a suitable adjustment means for length and for disconnection,such as a buckle 12.
As shown in Figures 3 and 4 of the drawings, the bottoms of the protectors, or either of them, are provided with recesses 13, pressed therein in the manufacture of the protector, and surrounding the ca-lk openings, a washer 14 being received in each recess and havingva central opening wherein is received a plug 15, insertable from below and having a lower head or flange 16, said plugbeing after insertion headed at the top to hold it in position, and having a central openingl7, threaded to receive the threaded shank of a removable calk 18.'The
hole is preferably drilled and threaded in a solid plug after insertion of the plug and heading of the top of the same. In this way, the bottoms of the protectors are strengthened, this being specially desirable at the ball of the foot, and the calks may be removed and replaced when worn or broken.
The devices may be made of any suitable size and finish and of any suitable material.
I claim In a protector for footwear, a sole mem ber provided with apertured bottom recesses, an apertured washer fitting in each recess, a plug engaging the apertures of each recess and its related washer and having a lower flange, a headed top and a threaded opening, and a removable calk having a threaded shank engaging said threaded opening and a lower head abutting against said lower flange of the plug.
