Be it known that l, HENRY H. PALS, a citizen ot the United States, residing at Meservey, in the county of Cerro Gordo and State of Iowa, have invented a new and usei'ul Door, or which the following is a. speciication.

The object off my invention is to produce a swinging door construction especially ap-A 1 10 plicable for use 1n stock pens and the like.

One of 'the objects of my invention is to provide a. very cheap construction which, however, will be ot such character that stock can not be injured by projecting parts.

The accompanying drawings illustrate my invention: Fig. 1 is a side elevation; Fig. 2, a section on line 2 2 of Fig. 1; Fig. 3, a section on line 3 3 ot Fig. 1 and Fig. 4la fragmentary section on line 4 4 of Fig. 1.

In the drawings, indicates a door trame which may be either an integral or a structural part oic a stall, tence, door, partition, etc. The swinging door 11 is conveniently formed orp a plurality of boards 11 held together by rods 12 passing through the boards horizontally. Rods 12 are provided at one end with integral eyes 13 and at the other end are threaded to receive the clamping nuts 14. The eyes 13 are of sufficient size to receive a length of gas pipe 15 which is slightly longer than the door and thus affords projected ends which seat in suitable sockets 16 in 'trame 10.

Sleeved over pipe 15 beneath the reye 13 of the lower rod 12 is a thimble 17 of larger diameter pipe having a length slightly greater than the distance from the lower rod 12 to the bottoni of the door so as to engage a wearing washer 18 laid upon the lower sill of the frame 10 around the lower end of pipe 15. i

At the upper free corner ot the door, I provide a. vertical notch and a pin 26 which bridges the notch 25 and to which is secured the lower end of a cable 27 passed upwardly through the upper bar of frame 10, preferably between a pair of rollers 28, and from thence over the pulley 29, and provided at its opposite end with a counterweight 30 which may be so arranged as to slide up and down in a channel formed in one of the vertical members 10 ot the frame 10. It will be noted that by this arrangement of the counterweight, the door will be held normally in a medial position from which it may be opened in either direction, the counterweight 30 vhaving the same eiect in either case.

in order to lock the door in closed position, I provide a pin 31 projected downwardly through a suitablefperforation in the upper bar of trame 10 and into a perforation 32 in the upper edge ot door 11. By withdrawing the pin 31, swinging the door slightly to one side, and returning the pin 31 to position, it will be noted that the pin will then serve is a stop to prevent the door swinging in an opening direction in one way but leaves the door Jfree to swing open in the opposite direction. Under such conditions, the door may be set for either ingress or egress and at the same time to.. prevent egress or ingress.

In order to properly till the opening in the frame 10, and to also cover projecting parts to prevent injury to stock, the forward or free edge of the door is formed with a U-shaped strip of sheet metal 35 which covers the nuts 14l and projecting ends of the rods 12 and lies close to the vertical bar 10 of the door traine. Similarly, a U- shaped strip of sheet metal 36 is secured to the hinged edge of the door and extended around and embraces the eyes 13 and thimble 17.

l claim as my invention:

1. A swinging door havinga plurality of hinge eyes secured at one edge, a hinge pin extending through said eyes and secured at its opposite ends in a `supporting iframe, and a Ll-shaped strip of sheet metal covering said hinge connection and secured to the sides of the door.

2. A door formed of a plurality oit boards, bolts passing laterally through said boards and clamping the same together said bolts carrying eyes at one end, a hinge pin projecting` through said eyes and projecting bevond said door to `form a support therefor and a cover plate secured over said eyes and hinge pin to term a closure therefor.
