To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, AUcUs'r HERMANN .l\/IEYER, a citizen of the Republic of Saxony,
residing at Plauen, in the Republic of Saxony, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Device for the Production of Crochet Seams and Patterns in Embroidery Machines, of which the following is a specification. i
This invention relates to embroidery machines for the manufacture of crochet seams and especially to a device for the formation of stitches in embroidery machines serving for the production of crochetseams and cm. chet patterns.
As is well known the characteristic feature of such crochet embroidery machines consists in the compound operation of two endless threads, of which one is used at the designed to close the latches of the hook shaped catches, to wit the so-called latch compressors, also are provided with threadguiding eyes and that these latch compressors, contrary to the present construction,
which perform only a movement towards the needles, execute an additional lateral movement serving to position the thread.
In consequence thereof it is possible without the aid of special mechanism, but merely by means of the latch compressors, to first cause the positioning of the back thread in in a manner suitable for the formation of the loop and then after the thread has passed beneath the latch to cause the closing of the latter so that the thread embraced by said latch will be drawn through the loop formed by the front or needle thread.
The present invention affords the advantage of doing away withspecial guiding devices, as is necessary informer construe tions, and avoids the drawbacks of the latter arising from such special mechanism, by

The operation of the device is "as follows i The front needle 2 has entered the fabric 1, and on its return forms a loop 3 this loop 3' is engaged from below by the hookshaped catch 5 in such a way that it assumes a position laterally of the front needle 2. When the catch 5 has moved upwards into the position shown in Fig. 3, the latch compressor 6, 7 and consequently the threadguiding eye also will perform a lateral movement and thereby place the thread 10 around the stem of the catch 5, as is apparent from Figs. 3 and 4 of the drawing. However, the latch compressor will make a further lateral movement, to wit will; move.

At this moment the latter moves down- Wards and brings: the thread 10 laid around' the stem'under the latch 5. On a further downward movement the roller 7 of the latch compressor will, as is to be seen from Figs.
5 and 6, force the resilient latch 5 against the needle-stem and the thread caught under the latch will be drawn through the connecting loop left back by the preceding operation. Suitable taking upof the front thread, that may be effected by a backward front thread into the fabric, of a hook shaped catch for locking the front thread by a continuous back thread and means for clos ing the hook of said catch, said latter means being formed with thread guiding means.
2. In a device for the production of crochet seams and patterns in embroidering machines, the combination with an embroide-ring needle for introducing a continuous front thread into the fabric, Y of a hook shaped catch for locking the front thread by a continuous back thread, means for closing thehook of said catch and a thread guiding eye on said'hook closing means so located that when the latter and said hook are opback thread, means for closing the hook of said catch including a roller directed toward said hook and a thread guiding eye onsaid hook closing means so located that when said roller and said hook are opposed to each other said thread guiding eye will be positioned laterally of said hook.
4-. In a device for producing crochet seams and patterns in an embroidering machine, the combination with an embroidery needle for entering loops of a front thread into the fabric, of a hooked catch for passing a back thread through said loops and thereby looking said front thread and means for locking the hook to said catch, said means being made to'sim-ultaneously serve as guide for the black thread.
5. In a device for producing crochet seams and patterns in enrbroidering machines, the combination with an. embroidery needle for entering loops of a front thread into the fab ric, of a hooked catch for passing a back thread through said loops and thereby looking said front thread,a movable member having its free end directed to said hooked catch and capable of compressing the hook of said catch to cl ose the latter and a guide carried by said member for said back thread.
