Substitute for application Serial No. 275,534, filed February 7, 1919.

Be it known that I, STEPHEN NEMECEK, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Cue Tips, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to-leather tips of billiard cues and the like, and has for its object To provide a leather one tip of an economical and indurated or wear resisting nature, and adapted to retain its normal resiliency during changes of the weather and seasons, in a uniform and very efficient manner, all as will hereinafter more fully appear.

Like reference numerals indicate like parts in both views.
Referring to the drawing, 1 designates the main or body part of a billiard cue, and 2 designates the one tip of the usual form and cemented or otherwise secured to one end of the one 1 as usual. In the present invention the cue tip 2 is preferably formed of what is known in the leather trade as chrome sole leather, and the material part of the present invention consists in the partial saturation of said one tip with solution of shellac or the like moisture p-roof resin in alcohol or the like, preferably in the approximate proportions of shellac, four ounces, to alcohol, one quart.
In the practical carrying out of the invention, the cue tips after they are out or formed from a slab or sheet of the chrome leather, are immersed and soaked for a period of from fifteen minutes to sixty minutes in the aforesaid solution, the period of time depending upon the density or porosity of the particular leather used, and until there is attained a superficial absorption of the solution, so that a central core portion 3 only remains unsaturated with such solution, as indicated in Fig. 2. And said core is adapted to provide sufiicient resiliency to the cue tip during continued actual use. With the drying of the cue tip after the described treatment with the solution, the outer or superficial part of the one tip becomes impervious to moistureand preserves a uniform quality of resiliency which is not affected by changes in the atmosphere or seasons of the year.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is l. A one tip formed of leather and having an indurating filling in its pores of moisture proof resin, said filling being superficial leaving a central porous core in the interior of the tip. 7
