SEAL.
To (W, whom wing, concern.
Be it lznown that I, Henri? (l. DES (lotions, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chilhowee, in the county of Johnson and State of hil'issouri, have invented EL new and usefu. Soul, of which the following is u. specification.
llhis invention relates to improvements in souls, and more particularly to seals employed. for locking; milk can covers, or the like.
The primary object of the invention is to provide :1 soul halving an odjustuble shackle, thereby adopting the soul for use with we rious sized cons.
A further object of the invention is to proride a device of this chnructer having looking tongues, stamped, from the sheet of metal of which the seal is formed, and means for providing a guard for the tongues, to prevent bending of the tongues out of lG('l-Z- ingengagement with the shackle, 1n the event that the seal is being tampered with.
A still further object of the invention to provide a seal wherein all of the elen'ients thereof, are sttunped from a single sheet of motel, the locking); elements being constructed to automatically lock the shackle to the body, against displacement when the shackle is moved to its locked position.
lVith the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the con'ibination and arrangement of parts and in the detuils of construction hereinefter described and claimed, it being uiulerstood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made within the scope of what claimed without deporting from the spirit of the invention.
Referring to the drawing 1 Figure 1 illustrates :1. seal constructed. in uccordunce with the present invention, the some being; shown in its locked condition.
Fist. 2 illustrates it section sl view taken. on line of Fig. 1.
Fig". 3 illustrates it blank constructed in :tccordence with the present invention, the some being shown in a nirti.ally folded condition.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the reference character 5 designates the control portion of the body or housing of. the soul, the some being shown as provided with an extension 6, which is relatively long, and

provided with circular openings 7, disposed throughout substantially, its entire length in spaced relntion with such other, the extrerne end of the extension, or shackle 6, being reduced as at 8, for purposes to be herein after more fully described.
The central portion. 5, of the body is provided with depressed portions 9 and 10, the some being in spaced relation with each other, and in a position to house the extreme ends of the locking tongues 11 and 12, formed in lutcrel section 13, of the body, when the section is folded to overlie the centrul portion 5, of the body.
As shown, the leteral section 13, provided with av shoulder 14, spaced from one edge of the shackle 6, to insure the section 13, being bent or formed in proper relation with the central section 5, that the locking tongues 11 end 12, will assume a proper relation with the depressions 9 and 10.
A lateral section. 15, is disposed adjacent the opposite side of the central portion 5, the sump being provided with relatively nerrcw section 15, formed integral therewith,
the some being folded on the line 17, the distance between the line 17, and the line 18, on which the section 15 is folded, being substu .tielly the some the width of the central section 5 of the body, so that the sections 13, 15 and 5, form :1. housing to receive the reduced. end 8, of the shackle 6.
These locking tongues 11 end 12, are stamped from the body of the section 13, the reduced ends thereof extending toward the reur edge 19 of the section 13 or in e direction opposite to the direction of travel of the shackle 6, if the some is being removed from its locked position.
in the cool, when formed, section 13 overlit the central section 5, the section 15, is new folded over to substantially house the section 13, the inn-row section 16 being now folded downwurdly to embrace the edges of tltie section. 13 and central section 5, for securing the sections of the body together.
The locking tongues 12 end 13, are now lying within. the confines of the depressions 9 and 10.
From the foregoing it will be seen that if the soul is to be locked, the shackle 6, or the pointed end 8 thereof, is forced between the central section 5, and lateral section 13, with the result that the locking tongues 11 and 12, will position themselves within certain l. O U
openings of the shackle, whereupon the looking tongues 11 and 12 again assume a position within the depressions 9 and 10.
It is obvious, that if a tool or instrument were inserted within the end of the body, to
, bend the tongues 11 and 12 upwardly, out of mit the same to be is claimed is In a seal, a central section having spaced depressed portions, a shackle formed integral with the central portion, said shackle being oi a width less than the width of the central portion, a lateral section formed in tegral with the central portion, said lateral section being of a length shorten than the length of the central section to provide a shoulder, said lateral section having tongues formed therein, said lateral section adapted to be folded over the central section so that the tongues thereof will lie in a position over the depressed portions, a lateral section having a relatively narrow section formed integral therewith, and forming a part of the central section, the last mentioned lateral section adapted to be folded over the first mentioned lateral section, said relatively narrow section adapted to engage the underside; of the central section for locking the sections together, and said shackle having openings cooperating with the tongues for securing the shackle to the central section.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto in the presence of two witnesses.
