To. all whom it may concern Be it known that 1, JOHN T. HA L, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hacienda, county of Uvaldo, State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful 1mprovements in Folding Cots, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to folding cots, more particularly adapted for use in connection with automobiles, though equally well adapted for use in other positions, and has for its object to provide certain improvements in the construction of the same as hereinafter more definitely will be pointed out and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which:

In the said drawings the reference numerals 1 denote the longitudinal side bars of the-cot,.the same being made preferably of wood. will be observed that the ends of the bars 1 are beveled at 6 and the inner ends of the stops 11, adapted when the legs are in their open position to engage against the under surfaces of the bars 1 to limit the outward movement of said legs. This outward move ment of the legs is also limited by the diagonal hinge bars 12 pivoted to said members 10 intermediate their length and to the side bars 1 at 13. Said members 10 are provided at their lower ends with angularly bent clips 14:, as shown in detail in Figs. 5 and 6, and adapted to interfit with said members 10 are the extension members 15, also angularly shaped to correspond with said members 10, and provided at their upper ends with bent clips 16, similar to the clips 14;. Said members 15 are formed near their upperv ends into apertured cars 17 adapted to have pivoted thereto the ends of the cross bar 18, hereinafter described. Said members 15 are also formed just below the ears 1'? into hubs 19, adapted to receive pins;20 which may be projected into any one of a series of holes 21 in the members.10,"whereby the extension members 15 may be retained in any desired adjusted position vertically with respect to the members 10, thus provid-' ing extension legs for the cot.

' tress and bed covering will be near the inner ends of the horizontal bars 23 and connected together at their upper ends by bolts 27 having vertical movement in slots 28 formed in the plates 22. As a further stiffening element I provide twopart bracebars 29, shown in detail in Fig. 10, the same being so constructed as shown, that they may fold in one direction only.

Referring to Fig. 9, it will be seen that the bars 25 are provided with shoes 30 of equal length therewith, and formed preferably of wood, said shoes having fixed to their side faces metallic plates '31 inturned at their upper ends to clip over the bars 25, as shown, said plates being adapted to slide outwardly on said bars 25, as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 3, whereby extension feet may be provided for the article, in a manner readily understood.

By referring to Fig; a, it will be observed that the pivots 82 for the legs at the left end of the cot are disposed farther to one side of said legs than are the pivots 33 at the right end of the cot. By this construction when the parts are brought to their folded position, the cot legs atthe left end will assume a position shown in dotted lines in said Fig. 4E parallel with the folded end pieces 5, whereas the legs at the right end of the cot will assume a position just below those at the left end and parallel with the side members 1, thereby providing an extremely is folded.

In order to provide a bed bottom for the cot I employ a'series of cross slats 34L fastened together by a suitable webbing 85, and properly toretain said bed bottom in position I provide a series of studs 86 011 the end pieces 5 adapted to engage in apertures 37 in said slats 34 in a manner readily understood. And in order that when folded the end pieces 5 may lie flush with the side bars 1, I provide series of apertures 38 in the top surfaces of said side bars to receive said studs 36, as shown in' Fig. 3. I also provide one or more central studs 39 on the side bars 1, adapted to engage the central slat or slats. it having been found that this number of fastening means is sufficient properly to retain the bed bottom in position.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Let- .ters Patent, is

1. A folding cot, comprising side bars, leg members hinged to the ends of said side are, and collapsible'frames connecting said leg members transversely and comprising bottom members forming when in open position transverse horizontally disposed feet, said frames when collapsed drawing said leg members and side bars toward each other and said bottom members upward.

2. A folding cot, comprisingside bars, leg members hinged to the ends of said side bars, and collapsible frame connecting said leg members transversely and comprising bottom members forming when in open position transverse horizontally disposed feet, said frames when collapsed drawing said leg members and side-bars toward each other and said bottom members upward and said frames and leg members adapted tofold bodily lengthwise of said side bars and between the latter.

3. A folding cot, comprising side bars, leg members hinged to the ends of said side bars, and collapsible frames connecting said leg members transversely and comprising bottom members forming when in open position transverse horizontally disposed feet, said frames when collapsed drawing said leg members and sidebars toward each other and said bottom members upward and said frames and leg members adapted to fold bodily lengthwise ofsaid side bars and between the latter, the legs and frames being so hinged to the side bars as to fold in parallel but different planes between said side bars. 4'. A folding cot, comprising side bars, leg membershinged to the ends of said side bars, extension leg members slidably interfitted with said hinged leg collapsible frames connecting said extensible leg members transversely of the side bars.

5. A. folding cot, comprising side bars, leg members hinged to the ends of said side bars, extension leg members interfitted with said hinged leg members, collapsible frames connecting said extensible leg members transversely of the side bars, and laterally extensible shoes carried by the lower ends of said collapsible frames.

6. A folding cot, comprising side bars, leg members hinged to the ends of said side bars, extension leg members interfitted with said hinged members, collapsible frames connecting said extensible leg members transversely of the side bars and comprising lower arms horizontally disposed when the cot is in an open position, and shoes slidable lengthwise of said lower arms and adapted to form laterally extensible feet.
