RUSSELL M. FIRESTONE, OF APPLETON, WISCONSIN.
COMBINATION- FURNITURE.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Mar. 16, 1920- .Application filed November 18, 1919. Serial No. 338,945.
To all whom, it may concern: I
Be it known that I, RUSSELL M. FIRE- STONE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Appleton, in the county of Outagamic, State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combination Furniture; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to new and improved furniture and particularly to a combination crj b and dresser or chest of drawers.
One object of the present invention is to provide a novel and improved piece of furniture of this character which includes the nepessary appurtenances for the care of a ha )y.
Another object is to provide a novel and improved device of this character which is simple in construction, convenient in arrangement, and which will occupy the minimum amount of space in a room.
' Other objects and advantages will be apparent from the following description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing. p
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a combined crib and dresser made in accordance with the invention.
Fig. 2 is a top plan view showing the table top in extended position.
Fig. 3 is a vertical transverse sectional view taken on the line 33 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 4 is an enlarged horizontalsectional view taken through one end of the table top, showing the groove therein and the towel rack carried thereby.
Referring particularly to the accompanying drawing, 10 represents the four corner posts of the crib to which are connected the. end walls 11 and the front and rear walls 12 and 13. The front Wall 12 has the two drawers 14 engaged therethrough, and theframe of the spring mattress 18 is adapted' to. rest.
In the inner faces of the end walls just above the drawers and the door, there are formed the horizontal grooves 18 in which are engaged the side edges of the table top 19, said top being arranged to he slipped in under the mattress when not in use. The table top is preferably covered with sheet metal, such as aluminum for sanitary purposes.
In the side edges of the table top there are formed longitudinally extending grooves 20, the ends of which connect with a groove 21 formed in the front outer edge. The rear portion of each of the grooves 20 is slightly deeper than the forward portions to receive the inturncd portions of the arms of the towel rack 22. This rack is preferably formed from a single length of round bar metal with the arms slidably disposed in the grooves and the transverse connecting portion movable into and out of the groove 21. The deeper portions of the side grooves .form stop shoulders 23 against which the inturned ends 22 engage to limit the outward movement of the rack. The transverse portion, when moved out of the groove 21 is spaced from the front edge of the table top so that towels and other cloths can be hung thereon.
What is claimed is: p
A combination article of furniture com prising a cabinet and a bed formed thereabove, a table top slidable into and-out of 'the cabinet below the bed, the side and front edges being formed with longitudinally extending grooves, the grooves of the side edges being deeper at their inner ends to form stop shoulders, and a yoke having its arms slidable in the side grooves with its ends turned inwardly within the deeper portions of said grooves and adapted to engage the shoulders to limit the outward movement of the yoke, the transverse portion of the yoke being arranged for movement into and out of the front groove to form a supporting rack for towels.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature, in the presence of two witnesses.
