of which the following Vis a specification.

This invention relates to water closet bowls and has for its object a particularly simple and eliicient construction formounting the bowl on the lfloor, 'and for connecting `its discharge pipe to the branch pipe leading to the soil pipe; andthe invention consists-in the combinations and constructions hereinafter set forth and claimed.

In describing this invention, reference is had to'v the accompanyingv drawings'in which like characters designate corresponding parts in all the views.

Figure 1 is a plan view of a closet embodying my invention.

This water closet constructioncomprises generally a bowl having a discharge pipe, an externalbase flange, alloory plateon'which the base flange is supported, and a. nipple at the lower end of the discharge-pipe extending below the plane of theV floor plate, and a soil pipe branch having its'4 upper end flanged and encircling the nipple and ]oined branch. In the construction shown in Figs.`

2 and 4, the base flange 3 and floor plate 4 are separable and the inner margin of the Hoor plate extends under the recessed base plate, and the flange of the soil pipe branch overlies the inner margin of the floor plate fl within the recess of the base flange 3, said soi] pipe branch extending across the inner edge face of the floor plate. n

The base flange is usually recessed to receive a packing 8 extending around the joint formed by said plate, the base flange and the upper end of the soil pipe branch and also around the entire base of the closet. A packing 9 is alsov located in the groove or rabbet at the outer edge of the floor plate to prevent water from entering or backing up under the floor plate. The upperface of the floor plate is also formed with a depression 10 for holding any spilled water and preventing it from running lon the floor. v p

In the construction shown in Figs. 2 and 4,

- the base ilange is secured tothe lfloor plate bymeans of bolts llveXtending vertically through the base flange 3, the packingv8 and the inner margin'of the floor plate; and the floor plate is secured at its inner margin to theloor l2 by screws 13. Packing 18 is located in the recessof'the base flange 15 'and engages the margin of the floor aroundthe soil .pipe branch opening and the-flange 16 of the soil pipe branch. l

In this construction, .the fastening screws 19 extend through the base "flange 15,' the packing 18 and` into the floor. 5

The constructions shown in Figs. 2 and 3 Y are designed particularlyfor new installations, while that shown in Fi 4is for use in connection with repair jo s and to be adapted to the present forms of closets.

In the construction shown in Fig. 4, the

base flange and lloorplate are practically the same as that lshown in Fig. 2, but the nipple 5 extends into a detachable nipple 20 which extends at its lower end into the upper end of the soil pipe branch and meets at its upper end, the inner edge of the floorl plate, the meeting edges lof the nipple 20 l and the floor plate-being kbeveled as shown at .21 so that this nipple 20 is supported at the edge of the floor plate. Packing 22 is interposed between the inner margin of the floor plate and the floor, the floor plate be! ing recessed at 23 for this purpose. The flange 24 at the upper end of' the soil pipe branch 25 overlies the floor, as in Fig. 3.

This water closet construction is particu-- larly advantageous in that the water is prevented from following up or backing up under the closet bowl, at the base flange of the bowl as in the constructions now in general use.

What I claim is l. In a water closet construction, the combination of a bowl having a base flange, a floor plate upon which the base flange is supported,the floor plate extending laterally around the base flange, and a discharge pipe having a nipple extending below the lioor plate, soil pipe branch, and a. joint between the floor' plate, the base flange and the soil pipe branch, the lioor plate having means at its outer margin for spacing the same from the floor comprising a packing around the outer edge of the plate, substantially as and for the purpose described. Y

2. In a water closet construction, the combination of a bowl having a discharge pipe, and a floor plate at the base of the bowl and extending laterally around the base of the bowl, the discharge pipe having a nipple at lowerend extending below the plane of the floor plate, a soil ipe branch, a packing at the outer edge oft e plate, and a packing between the nipple, the floor plate, and the soil pipe branch, substantially as and for the purpose specified.

In a water closet construction, the combination of a bowl having a discharge pipe, a base and a laterally extending floor plate surrounding the base andextending laterally around the base, the discharge pipe having a nipple at its lower end extending Vbelow the plane of the floor plate, a packing sur-` rounding the nipple and a soil pipe branch having a flanged upperend surrounding said nipple and coacting with the packing around the nipple, the floor plate having means around its outer margin for spacing the floor plate away from the floor and a packing associated with said spacing means, substantial'ly as and for the purpose specified.

4. vIn a water closet construction, the combination of a bowl having a discharge pipe, an outwardly extending recessed base flange, and a floor plate extending laterally around the base flange and having its margin extending under the base flange and engaging a lower edge thereof, packing in the recess between the `base-flange and the floor plate, fastening means extending through the base flange, the packing and the floor plate, the discharge pipe having a nipple extending below the` plane ofthefloor plate, 'i soil pipe branch having a flanged upper Yend inclos.- ing the nipple, and a packing at the outer edge of the floor plate, substantially as and for the purpose described.`

5. In a water closet construction, the combination of a bowl having a discharge pipe, a base flange, and a floor plate, the discharge pipe having a nipple at its lower end, a second nipple below the first nipple and surrounding the lower end of the same and meeting the floor plate, a soil pipe branch having a flanged upper end encircling the last mentioned nipple, the flange of said branch extending below the margin of the floor plate, and means for securingtherbase flange to the floor plate, substantially as and for the purpose described.l

6. In a water closet construction, the combination of' a bowl having a discharge pipe,

a base flange, and a. floor plate extending under the base flange, `the discharge pipe having a nipple at its lower end, a second nipple below the lirst nipple and surrounding thelower end of' the same and meeting the floor plate, a soil branch having a flanged upper end andencircling the last mentioned nipple, the flangeof said branch extending around the first mentioned nipple, and packing between the inner margin ofv the floor plate and the second mentioned nipple and overlying said flanged upper end of the soil pipe branch, and means for securing the base liange to the floor plate, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
