To all whom it may concern:

- Be it known that I, AUGUSTE ANTOINE GRAND, a citizen of the Republic of France, residing at Paris, France, have invented Imrovements in Mountings or Holders for eels of Gummed Paper, of which the following is a specification.

At the present time mountings or holders for reels of gummed paper ribbon, gummed tape and other materials of the same kind, are generally made of metal in one single piece, within which the reel can rotate and which have an edge or rib against which the ribbon can be pressed to enable it to be easily and neatly torn off when it is desired to detach a certain length thereof.

Now the present invention has reference to a mounting or holder for the said purpose, which, with a view to economizing metal and to cheapen the construction without sacrificing any advantages of the said kind of holder or mounting as regards simplicity, &c.,' is composed of a body of cardboard comprising two cheeks connected by a stay the cheeks being connected and held the desired distance apart by a clip which is arranged preferably at a point diametricall opposite to the stay in question and Whio may be made of metal or of any other-suitablematerial and may also beused as a cutting edge to facilitate the tearing off of lengths of the band or ribbon in the usual manner.

The accompanying drawings show a constructional form of reel mounting according to the invention, merely by way of example.

Figure 1 is a plan of the cardboardblank from which the body of the mounting is formed Fig. 2 is a perspective view of this blank,

Fig. 4 is a perspective of the completemounting with the reel of paper ribbon, tape or other material contained therein, the said reel being torn away at parts in order to show withinthe mounting, one of the holdin lugs of the clip;

Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the reel and 1 its mounting complete.

The cardboard blank adapted to form the body of the mounting com rises, as shown in Fig. 1 two substantially circular end parts a,a connected by a, small bar a forming part with slots a.

To form the body of the mounting the blank a, a, a is folded as shown in Fig. 2 and, after having introduced the reel of paper ribbon b or the like betwen the cheeks a, a as shown in Fig. 4, the cheeks are connected to each other by means of the clip shown in Fig. 3.

This clip consists of a strip of metal or any other suitable material, bent or folded so as to present tWo short and substantially parallel arms 0, 0 connected by a cross piece 0 having substantially the same length asthe stay a This clip is so placed across as to -Fig. 4,.in order to hold the checks at the de.

sired distance apart and retain within the mounting the reel of gummed ribbon, paper or other similar material. The paper is removed from the holder by pulling upon the projecting end, the paper band passing over lugs c as it is unwound.

As will be seen from Fig. 5 one of the edges of the clip 0, 0 a may be used as a cutting edge to enable the paper ribbon or band of other material to be easily torn off when it is desired to detach a certain-length b from the reel 1). If after the paper is torn oil. the free end of the roll does not project sufficiently to allow it to be grasped by the operator the roll may be turned with the fingers until the end of the strip proj ects acent the edge a of the clip.

As-.;will be readily .understood the invention is not strictly limited to the arrangements shown in the drawings and the details of its construction or manufacture may be modified without thereby departing from the invention. For example the slots a as well as the lugs 0 may be arranged otherwise than shown and the clip 0, 0 0 may be made of any material other t an metal, as for instance even of sufliciently stifi cardboard.

Furthermore the stay a of the body of the mounting instead of forming onepiece with the cheeks a, a}, could if necessary be formed by a separate member of metal, cardboard or other suitable material, similar to the clip c, c 0 and connecting the two cheeks in question to each other.

What I claim is 1. A mounting for reels of gummed paper ribbon, gummed tape or other similar materials, comprising a body of cardboard including two cheeks joined by a stay, a clip connecting the two cheeks and holding the cheeks at the desired distance apart and means carried by said clip and projecting through said cheeks and adapted to retain the reel of ribbon within the mounting.

, 2. A mounting for reels of gummed paper ribbon, gummed tape or other similar materials, comprising a body of cardboard ineluding two side members joined by a stay,

mounting.

3. A mounting for reels of gummed paper] ribbon, gummed tape or other similar materials, comprising a body of cardboard including two side members having apertures therein and joined by a stay, and a metal clip connecting the two side members and adapted to hold said side members at the de sired distance apart, said clip having lugs extending through said apertures in the side members to retain a reel in position within the mounting.
