Application filed July 14, 1919.
To all whom, it may concern Be it known that I, THOMAS H. HOLLAND, a citizen of the United States, residing in the county of Phillips and State of Kansas, have invented new and useful Improvements in Drags, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has reference to road leveling devices and is in the nature of a combined drag and snow buck.
The object of the invention is to produce a device of this character, which shall be of a light but strong construction, having means whereby the draft pole may be directed toward either end thereof so that the device may be propelled in both directions and employed either as a drag on a road or as a buck for removing snow from a road.
Other objects and advantages will present themselves as the nature of the invention is better understood, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which:

Fig. 7 is a perspective view of the removable nose piece employed when the device is used as a snow buck.
My improvement comprises two side members or runners 5. The runners have their ends rounded a. at 6 and the said ends have their inner faces beveled toward their ends as indicated by the numerals 7. Preferably the runners have their lower edges grooved and their inner faces protected by metallic shoe plates 8, the latter having their outer edges disposed slightly below the grooved lower edges of the runners.
The runners are connected by transverse spaced cross beams 9 and 10 respectively, the same being arranged upon the upper edges of the said runners adjacent to the ends thereof. The beam 10 is of a less length than the beam 9, and consequently the runners are retained at opposite angles with respect to each other and the device is substantially V-shaped in plan. at the apex of the device are, however, spaced away from each other. The cross beams 9 and 10 are preferably provided with angle brackets 11 which are bolted or otherwise secured to the runners 5 upon the outer faces thereof.
Connecting the beams 9 and 10 are longitudinally disposed brackets 12. Two of these brackets are employed and are disposed in spaced parallel relation to each other. Each of the brackets comprises an upper member 13 connected to the lower member 14, both the upper and lower members being provided with spaced alining openings 15, and through certain of these openings are passed pins 16 that engage with the trunnions 17 on the ends of a bar 18 to which the draft pole 19 is secured. By this arrangement it will be noted that the draft pole may be directed toward either end of the device, and by this arrangement it will be also noted that the bar 18 may be arranged at any desired position with respect to the ends of the device.
The draft bar is arranged outward of the cross beam 9 when the device is employed for leveling roads, the dirt collected by the runners being guided inwardly of the device and allowed to pass through the space 20 between the ends of the runners which are connected to the cross beam 10.
The inner ends of the runners, upon the outer faces thereof are provided with headed members 21 which are adjusted and which are designed to engage in slots or notches 22 in the ends of a substantially V-shaped nose member 23. The angle sides 24 of the nose member 23 are arranged in a line with the inclined runners 5, the nose being preferably constructed of metal, and when the nose is en'iployed the tongue 19 is directed over the cross beam 10 and outward of the said nose piece. When in this position the device may be used as a snow buck, the nose and runners contacting with the snow direct the same along the angular runners outward of the device.
It is thought, from the foregoing description, when taken in connection with the drawings, the simplicity of the construction and the advantages thereof will be readily apparent without further detailed description.
