REFRIGERATOR-CLOSURE.
. Application filed April 5,1251%,
To all tohom it may concern Be it known that I, GEB ARD C. BoHN, a
citizen .of the United States, residing at St. Paul, in the county of Ramsey and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Refrigerator- Closures, fication.
My invention relates to improvements in particularly of that type which have an i outer sheathing or casing of enameled sheet pearance of the.
of drilling holes in the sheathmetal,
One object of my invention is to provide a construction of the gharacteidesignated, in which the outeig sheathing is retained in position without the necessity of exterior fastening devices mar-ring the" exterior aprefrigeratorand without the necessity portion of the door and adjacent refriger- I Another object of my invention is to provide a construction in which the enameling the sheathing is protected against chipping or other injury as in the closing of the refrigerator. door.
My invention further'consists. in improved means for securing the enameled inner lining in position.
part of this specification,-
Figure l is a perspective view o'f'aportion of the front wall of a refrigerator showing the door and surrounding frame work with a portion of each partly broken away, and
Fig. 2 is'a horizontal section through a ator wall;
Referring to the drawings, A represents 'a refrigerator body and 2 enameled plates forming an exterior covering or sheathing for said body. 3'represents enameled 1111-.-
" irig plates for the interior .of. the refrigerator, the door Bvofthe refrigerator being likewise exteriorly covered by' enameled sheathing plates 4 and covered upon its inner side with enameled lining plate 5. In order to secure the 'sheathingandlining plates for the'body portion of the refrigerator in position I provide the molding strips 6 secured around the inner face of the'door opening.
As shown inFig. 2 the outercovering or sheathing is bent over the outer edge of the door-opening and the'lm- Specification of Letters Patent of which the following, is a specidoor edge. The linin refrigerators and analogous constructions,

of the dooropening so as to be overlapped by the molding 6, which molding is suit-' ably secured inside the door opening. The exterior sheathingforthe door is carried inwardly around the edge of'the door, as
shown in Fig. 2, to" form a grip over the outwardly over the. edge of the door and held in position by the molding 7 which* overlaps the lining I and issuitably secured to the door edge.
The molding -6, secured to the body of the refrigerator, is cutaway to form. a shoulder or stop 8 against which the molding 7 carried by the door contacts in, closing, the outer flange 9 of the door striking against the body of the molding 6.
In order to avoid chipping or injury to the enameled sheathing platesof the door and body of the sheathing along the door opening with an outwardly'bent rib 10, the inner side "of the door flange 9 being formed with a groove 11 to receive said rib. ,The sheathing for the I door terminates shortof the groove 11 so that iii the closed position of the door the rib 10 contacts with the wood portion of the door in which the groove 11 is formed. As shown in- #2 the parts ma 'be so fitted as to hold: the sheathing of t e door slightly separatedfrom the sheathing of the-body of the refrigerator, thus further ing is bent outwardly over the inner edge refrigerator I form the;
for the door is bent obviating'the danger-olfinjury to the enam-Z er to eled plates; In ord of'the door and casing, as by swelling, the preferably propor:
moldings 6'an'd 7 are tioned to leave a slight space 12 when the door is closed, and the outer door flange out away to, leave a slight space 13'.
Through the medium of the features of construction and combination described, I am able to entirely cover the refrigerator prevent binding box ZtIIdndOOI with enameled'plates without I the necessityiof the exterior fastening despecification I emplo the same as describmeans pass ng means ing or sheathing for body formed with a said refrigerator opening ing any sheathing oilining which is subject to, chipping or cracking and do not restrict myselfto the vitreous enamel porcelain.
I claim 1. In con' bination' with a, refrigerator door opening, a door hinged therein,'an enameled sheathing for the door opening, an enameled I said door extending around the edge of the door, and non-metallic fastening means for the sheathing of said body secured within the door opening and serving as a cushioning means for the door.
2. In combination with a refrigerator body formed with a door opening, and adoor fitted in said opening, an enameled sheathing or covering for said body, said sheathing being carried around the edge of edge of sheathing for the door opening, and a non-metallic molding secured to the inner face of the door openin and overlapping said sheathingto secure it in position and alsovconstitute a stop for the door to seat against.
3. In combination with body formed with a door. opening and a door fitted thereto, an enameled outer coversaid body portion bent over the outer edge of enameled lining wardly over the edge of the inner edge of the door opening and a non-metallic molding secured to the inner face of the door between the'bent pver edges of the lining and outer sheathing to form a stop for the door and overlapping both said lining and sheathing.
I. A refrigerator comprising a body por- I tion' formed witlra door opening, a door fitted to said opening, enameled sheathing lates forming an exterior covering for said body portion and bent outwardly around the door, opening to form a rib and enameled sheathing plates covering said door and bent around the edge thereof, said door being formed ef non-metallic material and pro vided with a groove adjacent to the free edge of the door covering plate to receive said rib.
body extending around the ing part of said 5. A refrigerator comprising a body por tion formed with a door opening, and fitted thereto, enameled sheathing,v ing plates covering'f-said body portion'and bent over ;the edgesof the door opening,'-; fastening mea n's secured inside the door opening a and. overlapping said plates, enameled sheet metal sheathing and lining plates for said door, said plates overlapping the door edge, and anon-metallicseat formdoor and contacting -wit the exterior sheathing of said refrigerator when said door is closed,
a refrigerator the door opening, an for said body-bent outmeans for the body and 1 against another.
6. A refrigerator comprising a; body. formed with a door opening, a door for closing the latter having a non-metallic flange overlapping the body about the door open- '65 ing, an enameled sheathing plate forming an exterior .covering'for said body and bent outwardly beneath the door flange to form a ribabout the door for spacing the nonmetallic door flange from the sheathing plate, an enan'ieled sheathing plate covering the door and bent a'round the edge of the flange thereof but terminating short of the point of contact ofthe rib with said flange, sheathing plates forming interior coverings door, non-enameled means securing the interior sheathing plate of the] door to the door, and like means for securing. the sheathing plates of the body in position and forming a seat for the first means. 7. A refrigerator comprising a body formed with a door opening, a door for 0105- ing the latter, enameled sheathing and linw ing plates for 'the exterior and interior surfaces of the body and the door, and nonmetallic means for securing the body plates in position and serving as a cushioning for the door during closing movement to prevent one enameled plate from striking In testimony whereof I- aflixiny signature i in presence of two witnesses.
