APPLICATION FILED JULY 10,1919. 1,327,062, Patented Jan. 6,1920. 7 o l ZfrL/f. l. 5
i kerchie UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE;
MICHAEL n. am, voir mfr, omo.

QUINN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kent, in the county of Portage and State Ief Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Handkerchiefs; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact descri tion of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. i

A further object is the provision of a handkerchief'l folded on a diagonal line between opposite corners and having such corners formed with a knob or button at one end, and an eyelet of buttonhole at the other end, providing for the convenient connection of said ends in using the handkerchief as a napkin, scarf, apron, bandage or the like.
With the fore oing and other objects in view, which wil be apparent as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the construction and arrangement of arts hereinafter described and claimed, it lieiug understood that changes can be made within the scope of what is claimed without departin from the spirit of the invention.
he invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein- Figure 1 is a plan view of the handkerchief embodying the present improvements.
Fig. 3 is an enlarged detail view of the other end of the article showing the knob or button.
Fig. 4 is a perspctive view of the article as used as a nap 'n, scarf or apron with the ends attached together.
A handkerchief or similar sheet 1 of fabric is used, for the purposes of the present invention, and is folded or doubled on a dia onal line between o posite corners, there y roviding a triangu ar napkin, scarf, apron, andage. or similar article, the opposite ends handkerchief can be used I tion,

'l To all whomz'tmay concern: of which are formed to provide interenga mg means.- Thus, one end ortion of t e doubled or folded handkerc 'ef is folded and rolled into a ball or knob 2, and a thread, strlng or other binding element 3 embraces the material behind said knob or button, to provide a neck therefor, and' to hold the material in sha e.
` At the opposite end, t e corner portion of the handkerchief is folded back, as at 4, against one side of the body ofthe sheet, with the tip or corner folded back against the dlagonal fold line of the handkerchief or sheet, and one edge of the portion 4 extending diagonally and stitched, as at 5, between the edges of the trian ar article, and the other edge 6 of the portion 4 stitched to the article along the diagonal fold line. This providesa reinforced corner portion of four thicknesses of material, which is provided with an eyelet or buttonhole 7. This folding back and sewing of the portion 4 not only reinforces the eyelet or buttonhole porbut also provides a blunt end for the article whereby the use thereof is rendered more convenient and ellicient.
The article can be used as a napkin, scarf, apron, bandage, or the like, and afterbeing passed or wrapped around the body, the knob 2 can be pushed through thev eyelet or bottonhole 7, which will attach the ends of the article together, thereby holding itin place, the eyelet or buttonhole belng of about the same or slightly smaller diameter than the knob 2. Whenthe handkerchief is used as an apron it will pass only once around the body, whereas when it is used as a napkin or scarf around the neck, it will general y pass twice around the neck before the ends are attached. The handkerchief can also be used as a bandage to lbe wrapped around the arm or leg and then fastened by inserting the knob through the eyelet. Thus, the handkerchief provided with the features illustrated and described will be of generalv utility, aside from its ordinary use.
