BASEBALL-BAT.
Application filed July 28, 1915.
to provide a device of the character set forth with a more resilient striking or impact portion whereby a base ball or other slmilar ob ect impacted thereon is caused to rebound to a greater distance, thus increasing the interest and pleasure of the game.
Referring to the accompanying drawing, forming a portion of this specification, and in which like reference characters indicate like parts wherever used,
Figure l is a side elevation, partly broken away, showing a base ball bat manufactured in accordance with this invention.
Fig. 2 is a side View of a bat body prepared to receive the resilient impact portion.
Fig. 3 is a section on line 33 of Fig. 1 and Fig. 4: is a longitudinal section through the resilient portion.
5 designates a base ball bat having the impact portion thereof suitably cut away to form an annular depression 6 defined by shoulders 7 and 8 and a central core 9.
About the core 9 are wound, under suitable tension, a plurality of rubber threads Specification of Letters Patent.

forming a layer 10 of proper thickness, said layer being then covered by a second solid layer of treated rubber or guttapercha 11 which lies flush with the outer periphery of the shoulders 7-8 and forms a continuation ofthe surface of the bat 5.
By this construction a bat for base ball, crlcket, or the like, or a golf club or similar instrinnent is provided which has an impact portion of the desired resiliency and durability to enable the objects of this invention to be realized.
I claim:
1. A. base ball bat comprising a body member, a resilient portion formed of elastic threads on said body member and a corering for said resilient portion.
A base ball bat comprising a body member, a resilient portion formed of elastic threads wound under tension about said body member and a covering for said resilient portion.
3. A base ball bat comprising a body member, a resilient portion fo "med of elastic threads wound under tension about said body member, and a semi-resilient covering for said resilient portion.
a. A. base ball bat comprising a body member, a resilient portion formed of elastic threads wound. under tension, about said body member, and a semi-resilient covering for said resilient portion, said covering be ing formed of gutta-percha.
in testimony whereof I aiiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
