A further object of my invention is to provide fire extinguishing means in a motion picture projecting machine by which fire *therein may be easily and quickly extinparts in the various views.

With these and other objects in view which will be hereinafter fully described and particularly pointed out in the claims, the invention consists in'the novel construction and arrangement of parts illustrated in the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which Figure 1 is a partial side elevation of a motion picture projecting machine embodying my invention, parts thereof being broken away to show the invention more clearly.

Mounted on the base is the lantern house 2 and the projecting mechanism 3. The projecting mechanism comprises magazine inclosures 4 and the projecting mecha- 'nism inclosure 5. The magazine inclosures 4: have doors 6 forming the. outer sides thereof through which the film reels 7 may be put' in and taken out. The film reels are rotatably ,mounted within the magazine inclosures e and in the operation of the device the film is wound oil of the film reel in the upper magazine inclosure through a slit therein into the inclosure of the projecting mechanism. The film then'passes through a slot in the lower magazine inclosure and is wound upon a film reel rotatably mounted in said lower magazine inclosure. It is .not uncommon that fires will start burning in the projecting mechanism inclosure, and the films being of highly inflammable material fire is soon communicated to the magazine inclosure where the major portion of the films are. It is customary in such cases to open the .doors of the magazine inclosures and to inject fire extinguishing matter therethrough. The opening, of the doors allows the air to communicate with the magazine inclosures and aids the burning of the film.
My invention provides apparatus for extinguishing such fires without opening the doors of the magazine inclosures or the door of the projecting mechanism inclosure.
A fire extinguisher 9 is located in an inclosure of the base 1. This fire extinguisher is preferably one of the constant pressure type containing compressed 'carbondioxid or a similar compound. However, any one of the well known forms of fire' extinguishers may be used. A pipe 10 leads from the fire extinguisher and communicates with a valve 11, said valve being adapted to control the passage of the pipe 10. A handle 12 is Patented Nov. 11', 1919. j
provided on the valve 11 for convenient manual manipulation thereof. After passing the valve 11 the pipe 10 is divided into two branches 13 and 14. The branch 13 communicates with a pipe 15 which in turn communicates with the magazine inclosures 1 and the projecting mechanism inclosure 5. The branch 14 communicates with a pipe 19 which passes through the magazine inclosures 4 and the projecting-mechanism inclosure 5. The part of the pipe 19 which is within the above mentioned inclosures is perforated with a number of small holes. The pipes 15 and l9,by means of their communication with the above mentioned inclosures, are adapted to quickly distribute the fire extinguishing matter into the inclosures when the valve 11 is turned to establish communication between the fire extinguisher and said pipes.
By the above mentioned mechanism it will be noted that means is provided for extinguishing fires in motion picture projecting machines whereby fire extinguishing matter may be put into the inclosures without opening the doors thereof whereby the fire is not only brought into more intimate relation with the fire extinguishing matter but air is excluded from the inclosures. whereby the fire is starved. And further, the means for putting the fire extinguishing matter into the inc-losures of the machine being easily operated by the mere turning of a valve, the danger of injury to the delicate mechanism of the machine is minimized.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim:
1. In a device of the class'described, a plurality of inclosed reel magazines, projecting mechanism and a casing therefor, a pipe provided with discharge apertures communicating with said casing and with said magazines, and a receptacle adapted to contain fire extinguishing fluid connected with said pipe and discharging simultaneously into the casing and inclosed magazines.
2. In a device of the class described, a supporting frame including a base, a plurality of inclosed reel magazines, means for inclosing a projecting mechanism, a receptacle for a fire extinguishing fluid mounted within the base, and a pipe leading from said receptacle to each of the magazines and passing through the inclosing means for the projecting mechanism, said pipe being pro vided with discharge openings leading to each magazine and to the inclosing means for the projecting mechanism.
