Be it known that I, GEORGE R. VILLIAMS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Battle Creek, in the county of Calhoun and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Token- Holders, of which the following description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, forms the specification, the principle of the invention therein being shown and the best mode I have oontemplated for redncing the same to practice.

The invention more particularly relates to token holders, such as are employed by the individual as a convenient device for holding tokens or disks used for paying car fares and the like.

The invention consists 'chiefiy of two equally spaoed circular side members united at their edges to form a chamber and secured at a common center by a spacing member, said chamber having a slot in its periphery for the admission or discharge of a token or disk, and an inolosed, circular-shaped spring having its ends protruding through said slot and curved upon itself as a retaining device, between the ends of which a token may be placed or removed from said holder.

An objeot of the invention is to Construct a device of the class that willcarry a limited number of tokens, into and from which they may be readily placed or released, as expedient; whereby said device Will be neat and tasty in design economical to produce and not expensive for purchasers. These and other objects and advantages Will be more fully set forth and described in the following speoification and be particulafly defined in the appended claims.

In the drawings forming a part of this specification, Figure 1 is a side view of my improved token holder.

In the difierent views, like marks of reference refer to corresponding parts, in which A, is a cupped side plate; B, a spaced, internally fitted plate or disk; 0, a spacing and securing member; and D, an internally fitted semioircnlar retaining spring.

tened circular center portion 1 of a thickness but slightly more than the thickness of the token, check or coin, and its ends 2 project through registering conter holes in the side plates A and B and are sWaged to hold the parts.

Preferably the side plates are formed with oppositely-disposed holes 3 which are for a two-f0ld purpose, viz., to see within the holder and to facilitate the removal of a token or coin from the holder.

Within the edges of the plates A and B, registering curved notches are formed which, when the plates are assembled, forni a curved recess 4 opening into the chambers between the side plates and fomning both a hole or slot through which a token or disk may be placed or removed from the holder and also a clearance into which said token or disk may be'exposed and be grasped between the thumb and fingers for removal.

As shown in Figs. 2 and 5, the outer edge of the carrier is formed with a small hole, as 5, on either side of the curved slot 4. These holes are slightly elongated for the purpose of permitting the inturned ends of the spring D to give and take in placing or removing a token from the holder, as Will be presently explained.

The spring D is curved to lie within the chamber formed between the sides of the plates A and B and against the inner peripheral wall thereof, excepting suflicient clearance near its ends to permit a token to be passed between its curved ends 6. These ends are curved and form eyelets, between the rounded edges of which a token or disk may be readily placed or removed, the tension of the spring readily permitting a token to be placed within the holder, yet afi'ording sulficient resistance to preclude a token being released accidentally. In the modified form shown in Figs. 4: and 5, one of the side plates, as B, for instance, is formed with an eyelet extension 7 protruding through a slot out from the upturned edge of the plate A, and into which a small chain 8 may be attached, the chain in turn being secured to ones garment in the manner of a key chain, as a means for preventing its loss. The plate as shown is formed with a central offset 9 corresponding in purpose to the spacing means C m Figs. 1, 2 and 3, and into the depression a small binding nut 10 is fitted and the sults, and I reserve the right to employ such minor details and methods of construction as lie within the intent and scope of my invention.

From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the dravving, a more eX- tended explanation is believed unnecessary.

Having, therefre, set forth my inven tion, What I daim as new and desire no secure by Letters Patent, is:

1. In a token holder, the combination of tWo circular uniformly spaced plates meeting at their edges and separated at their centers by a spacer, a curved oppositelydisposed cutaway portion made in their edges forming a slot opening between said plates, and an opening formed in the contacting edges of said plates either side of said slot, a spring fitted between said plates near their inner edges and having its ends extending through said slot and curved from said slot and bent downwardly t0 enter said openings, and means to hold said plates in engagement at their edges.

2. In a token holder, the combination of a fiattened. separable circular casing having a curved ofiset in its edge forming an elongated slot therein, one side of said casing com prising a dished member, the opposite side comprising a flattened member fitting Within said dished member and having a circular dished central ofiset fitting against the bottom of said dished member, said members having alined oentralholes, a mit fitted wit hin the central dished ofiset of one member and a screw passing through said holes and screw-threaded into said nut a curved spring fitted vvithin the dished member of said casing and having its ends extending from the slot in the edge formed by said curved offset and having its ends curved laterally from one another; substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
