Description

" is Imore particularly intended for embodi` my Ainvention is `to provide a" fastener ele-'- FASTENER. l
Toall whom z'tmafz/ concern.'
'Be it known that I', O'rrs D'. BELL', a citizen offthe UnitedStates, and a resident of the city of New York, Aborough of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York7 have invented anew and Improved Fastener, of which the following is a description.
` My invention while capable of other uses ment in a fastener for securing a button or a loop to a. garment, the invention being adapted more particularly for embodimentV in fastening means for securingvbuttoiis or 'loops on fur garments.
With. vfasteners to which the invention` particularly pertains, i tape,` cord orulike liexible medium is' employed and a 'coacting fastener element, and the"general Vobject ofA ment' for the tape` having .suchA `formation thetape mayreadily be passed through and about the fastener'element in such Inan-A ner as to hold the Abutton or loop securely and avoid t ing the tape. A
'Also, in us'ing-faste1iers of the Yindicated A character, it must berecognized in practice beine improperly ,engaged with the fastener l element.
4Reference is to behad` to the accompanying drawings forming a partA of this specification, it being understood thatthe draw-l ings are merely illustrativeof" practical ex'- amples 'of the invention.`

Fig. 3 is 'a view similarto Fig. 2 but showiI ing a" further step' in the 'engagement of the 1 tape with the fastener;
AF ig. l is a view similar to Figs. and 3 but showing the tape completely engaged with the fastener element;

being approximately central of the elementl l0 oratall events inward from the respective edges ofsaidelement. In addition to the hole y1l I produce' recesses 13m opposite edge portions of the fastener l0, at opposite sides ofthe hole 11, andthere is furthermore produced insaidfastener element a narrow slot la extending"from an edge of the fastener element between the recesses 13 and communicating with the hole ll, said slot being advantageously flaring as shown'. An additional hole 1 5, hereinafter particularly referred to in connection with` Figs. 6' yand 7,
is formed in the fastener 10,'at the opposite side of the hole lllfrom the slot 14.
The fastener is applicable to fasten `buttons, finished with fa tape, as are `generally used in fur garments,"or, even for buttons madewith@J shank o'rholes, Also, the tape orcord maybe applied tothe button in any approved manner .leaving the free ends to be brought together at the back of the button.
In the example shown in Figshl to 5,- the button has the tape passed diametrically acrossthe inner face7 then over diametrically opposite edge portions in recesses a2 to the faoe'of the button, over which the ends are passed oppositely to thecentral hole a illus-r trated in the present example, throughwhich hole the "tape or cord passes rearwardly to `A bebrught together at the inner side, but themanner of securing the tape to the button is'unimportant as stated. The' button A illustratedisof the type having a fabric coveringa. p Y
In"fas'tening a button to a garment with m'y'improved'fastener,the tape or cord is passedthrough aholefor puncture b in the material Bef a fabric or fur garment to tlieinner sideA ofthe latter. The twoends of the tape or cordlZ are now passedinto the fastener, laterally through the slot llll` andpulle'd intothe hole 11,' the tape and fastener then being in the relation shown in Fig. 2 With.Y the fastener element 10 lying close to the inner side of the garment. The
' twotapes are noW brought laterally about the fastener element in the manner indi# cated in Fig. 3. by being carried from the...
. hole 11 over the outer face of the said element-and pressed laterally into one recess.
13, said tapes being thencarried beneatlr the fastener element between'the same and the garment and carried laterally into the recess '13 at the opposite side edge of said element,all ofwhich'will beclearly understood from Fig. 3g The tape ends 1 2 are now passed in through the slot 14 Iback to Y gether through said slot or forced, in single5 SiiQCQSSiQii-toth Opening lili .'lheffasiehei anlvtape will'A then hai/'e'` the relation Vshown in Figs, 4. and
