IMPROVEMENT IN FRUlT-RENOVATORS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N0. 130,167, dated August 6, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN E. WEAVER, of the city of Lancaster, in the county of Lancaster and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and Improved Fruit-Renovator; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference beinghad to the accompanying drawing making a part ofthis specification, in which the construction is shown.
The object of this invention is to provide a portable means, for the use of grocers and coir fection ers, to renovate prunes, raisins, and'the like when they become dry and sugar-coated, instead of washing in warm water and drain- .ing thema tedious and unsatisfactory prov cess heretofore in use by retailers.
which is either set on or into a stove when convenient, or, what is better, set into alampholder, B, provided with a handle, and an inner ledge, b, to support the bottom of the vessel C over a lamp, A, by which the water is heated to generate steam. By means of the flexible tube a jet or jets of steam are thrown on, under, or among the fruit to be renovated, by which the candied or sugar-coated surface of the fruit will be melted, and the heat and moisture cause them to swell, so as to restore them to their original plump and glossy appearance, completely renovating them in a superior manner with ease and dispatch.
I do not claim the lamp-stand B, nor indeed the vessel 0 with its spout and flexible tube, separately considered, as such have been used in various ways for various purposes; but I am not aware that the combinedarrangement was ever employed for the purpose of renovating fruit, or anything substantially like it.
