ATTORNEYS UNITED STATES FRANK IGNACIO SILVA, F WAILUKU, TERRITORY OF HAWAII.
SOCKET-WRENCH.
Application filed November 26, 1920.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK IGNAOIO SILVA, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Wailuku, Maui, Territory of Hawaii, have invented certain new and useful 7 Improvementsin Socket-Wrenches, of which in the ends of the same adapted to be moved into and out of operative position.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the improved wrench,
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section,
Fig. 3 is a transverse section.
In the present embodiment of the'invention, a tubular member is provided, having ends 1 and 2 of unequal diameter, and the said tubular body is polygonal in cross section, .being hexagonal in, the present instance. Openings indicated at 3 and 4 are provided in the tubular member at the ends thereof, the said openings being diametrical, and being adapted to receive a rod, to permit the wrench to be turned.
Within each end 1 and 2 of the tubular member there is mounted a sleeve 5 and 6, respectively, these sleeves being polygonal in cross section and fittin the ends of the tubular member. Each 0 the said ends of the tubular member is slotted longitudinally as shown at 7 and 8, and a finger piece or handle 9 and 10 is connected with each sleeve.
These finger pieces are plates each of which has a sliding portion 11 and 12, respectively, moving in the slot, and the finger pieces are connected to the sleeve by a headed rivet 13. The end or socket 1 of the wrench is of a size to fit A-C-Titan and Champion spark plugs. The end or socket- 2 is shaped to fit Champion-X spark plugs. The sleeve orsocket 5 is of a size to fit the Sootless spark plug, while the sleeve or socket 6 is of a size to fit the Splitdorf and Rajah plugs. In use, when it is desired to use for instance, socket 1, the socket 5 is Specification of Letters Patent.

pushed out of engaging position. When it is desired to use the socket 5, it is pushed down into the position of Figs. 1 and 2. The socket 6 in Fig. 2 is in inoperative position. When the sockets occupy the position of socket 6 in Fig. 2, the rod indicated in dotted lines in Fig. 1 may be inserted through the openings 3 or 4, to form a handle for turning the wrench.
With this arrangement, a very compact simple and inexpensive wrench is provided, capable of engaging four sizes of nuts. It willbe evident that the sockets might be of any desired size, depending upon the purpose for which the wrench is to be used.
I claim:
1. A wrench of the character specified, comprising a tubular member of polygonal cross section having its ends of unequal diameter and adapted to engage nuts of unequal size, said tubular member having diametrical openings near each end for receiving a handle rod to facilitate turning of the tubular member, and a sleeve slidably mounted in each end of the tubular member, each sleeve being of polygonal cross section and shaped to fit within the adjacent end of the tubular member and having means for moving the same and for limiting the movement of the same in each direction, said limiting and moving means comprising a finger piece connected with each sleeve, the tubular member having an opening through which the finger piece extends.
2. A wrench of the character specified, comprising a tubular member of polygonal cross section having its ends of unequal diameter and adapted to engage nuts of unequal size,-said tubular member having diametrically'opposite openings adj aeent each endfor receiving a handle rod to facilitate turning of the tubular member, and a sleeve slidably mounted in each end of the tubular member, each sleeve being independent of the other of polygonal cross section and shaped to fit within the adjacent end of the tubular member and finger pieces carried by each sleeve for moving the same and for limiting the movemnet of the same in each direction.
3. A wrench of the character specified, comprising a tubular member with ends respectively shaped} to fit difi'erent nuts, a, sleeve of similar shape slidably mounted in said ends and independent each of the other,
said tubular member having diametrically oppositetransverse openings adjacent each cross section, and having an elongated slot end to receive a handle rod when the sleeve in one or more of its facets and a sleeve of in that end is completely housed within the polygonal cross section slidably fitting With- 10 end, to facilitate turning of the tubular in the tubular member, and a finger piece 5 member. carried by said sleeve and extending 4. A Wrench of the character specified, through said slot for sliding said sleeve. comprising a tubular member of polygonal FRANK IGNACIO SILVA.
