v improvements in brushes especially adapted Yfor `washing mud, .grit and vdust from automobiles or other articles having highly polished paint thereomand has for its primary object the provision of a device of the above stated character which will loosen foreign matter from -a painted surface and remove the same with a flow of clean water so as to obviate scratching or otherwise'injuring the painted surface.

A further object of this invention is the provision of a mounting for the cleaning elements, which will form an efficient means for the handlin'gof the device and alsopermits of said device to be readily and quickly applied to a hose.

A still further objectvof this invention is the provision of a brushl of the above'stated character which will be simple, durable and i eiicient, and which may bey manufactured and sold at a comparatively low cost.

A protecting element 22 constructed from rubber or any other material suitable for the purpose is of a corresponding shape to the casing 1 and 'is placed over the casing and is provided with cut out portions 23 to receive the nozzle and the handle. The protecting element'22 is adaptedfto prevent the casing from coming in contact with the article on which the brush is operating thereby obviating any danger of the casing scratching or marring the surface of said article.

The water passing ,into the casing from the hose strikes againstthe fins rotating the cleaning element 5 withinV the stationary cleaning element 2 and the water saturates the bristles of the cleaning element 5 and passes onto the surface of the article being scrubbed or washed, thereby removing foreign' matter from the surface of the article thatl has been loosened by the rotation of the cleaning element 5. The bristles of the stationary cleaning element 2 confine the water and prevents the same from being thrown by centrifugal force over too large an area.

`IVhile I have lshownl and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it will be understood that minor changes in vrconstruction, combination, and arrangement of parts may be made without departing from the spiritand scope of the invention as claimed.
