INFANTS TABLE.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patent d S t 20 1921 Application filed December 6, 1919. Serial No. 343,124.
[0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, HonAR'r G. TRUES- DELL and Mirror: H. VAN \Vomrnn, citizens of the United States, and residents of Suffield, county of Hartford, State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in an Infants Table, of
which the following is a specification.
This invention relates particularly to a table designed and peculiarly adapted for use in dressing and bathing infants, the object of the invention being to produce an article of the character described having features of novelty and advantage.
The invention is illustrated in the drawing wherein the figure is an elevational view of the table.
The frame of the table is formed of metal and has legs a and 7) which are crossed and pivoted as at c, the two pairs of legs being connected together by proper braces d, e. The legs are tubular to telescopically receive the lower ends of supports f so that the table is adjustable as to height to accommodate persons of different stature and varying requirements of different users. The supports are maintained in adjusted position in any suitable manner as by means of thumb screws g. The upper ends of corresponding supports of each pair are connected by side bars h to which is removably secured, as by means of hooks 2', the top Z: formed of webbing of some sort. The legs are held in extended position by U-shaped brackets Z, w, having their arms telescoping into the side bars 71 which may be tubular for this purpose. These braces may be formed from a single rod as is brace Z, or they may be formed in two parts connected together by a coupling a, as shown on the right hand side of the figure.
The brace m serves as a frame for a bath tub 0 of suitable water proof fabric, such as rubberized cloth. The tub is removably secured in any suitable manner to the brace; in the present instance, the tub being shown as having eyelets 79 through which the arms of the brace ar threaded. The outer end of the brace m is supported by an adjustable standard 1', the upper end of which may be screwed into a threaded opening in the coupling n so that the standard may be readily removed when it is desired tocollapse the table. The other brace Zmay serve as a rack for towels, clothes, or the like. Removably secured to on of the side bars h is an apron 8 having pockets to receive toilet or other articles which may be used while bathing or dressing an infant.
This complete device provides a very useful article, the top 7.: of webbing is held sufficiently taut by the braces which position the legs in their extended position and yet has sufficient give so that the weight of the infant will cause it to sag very slightly, leaving the center depressed with respect to the edges and so removing the possibility of the child rolling off of the table. The top of webbing is soft so that an infant can be laid upon it without discomfort. The brace m performs a double function, acting as a frame for the bath tub and also as means for maintaining the legs in their extended position.
As the bath tub is immediately adjacent or continuous to the top of the table,-the infant may be undressed on the top of the table, transferred to the tub and bathed, and then again placed on the top where it may be dried and redressed and all of this may be done right on the device so that there is no necessity for the attendant to change her position. As the top 7:1, bath tub 0 and apron s are all removable, they can be readily cleansed or renewed when soiled or Worn. The article may be quickly folded or collapsed into a compact space for convenient storage when it is not in use, it being readily understood that to collapse the device it is merely necessary to remove the standard 7*, draw out the braces Z and at until one arm of each is disengaged from the side bars 72., and then telescope the other arm of each brace into the side bars h with which they are engaged.
We claim as our invention:
1. A folding table comprising pairs of crossed pivoted legs, side bars connecting the corresponding legs of each pair, a webbing attached at its edges to said bars, a U-shaped brace to hold said pairs of legs in extended position and having its arms tele- 2. A folding table comprising crossed pivote pairs of d legs, tubular bars connect- 5 ing the corresponding legs of each pair, a
webbing attached at its a U-shaped br edges to said bars, ace to hold said pairsof legs in extended position and having its arms telescoping into said side bars, a bath tub of fabric removably carried by said brace, and a standard connected to and supporting the outer end of said brace.
