.TESSIE LEIGH ALLEN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
vmor CLEANER AND HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent. Parttnted Aug. i6', jggL Application filed May 17, 1920. Serial No. 381,965.
To @ZZ wzomz' may concern.'
Be it known that I, Jnssm LEIGH ALLEN, a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Mop Cleaners and Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to cleaning and storage casings or receptacles for the dry type of household mops, and has for its object To provide a Structural formation and association of parts whereby a manual beating orsnapping of the mop head to remove the dust therefrom, can be performed in a ready and effective manner, with an effective confinement of the dust during such operation, the appliance affording in addition a ready and convenient storage receptacle for the mop when not in use, all as will hereinafter more fully appear.
In the accompanying drawings Figure l, is a perspective view illustrating the generalarrangement of parts of the present invention.
Fig. Y2, is a central vertical section of the same.
Fig. 3, is a'horizontal section on line 3 3 Fig. 2.
Like reference numerals indicate like' parts in the different views.
Referring to the drawing, l designates the main body of the casing or receptacle, preferably of a cylindrical form, as shown, and
having a closed bottom 2, preferably of a (lished or concave shape as shown in Fig. 2, in order that the dust settling in the bottom portion of the casing or receptaclemay be .effectively collected as a body in the central portion of said bottom by a jarring or shaking action of said casing or receptacle.
3 designates a hinged cover attached to a fixed segmental portion 4 ofthe receptacle or casing '1, by hinges 5, said cover being preferably of a greater size than the fixed portion 4 in order to afford an entrance opening of a maximum size to the upper end of the casing or receptacle.
6 designates a marginal recess in the hinged cover 3 adapted to receive the handle portion of a mop when the same is to be stored in the casing or receptacle for subsequent use.
7. designates a pivoted lid adaptedto close the aforesaid marginal recess G during the operation of cleaning the mop head hereinafter described 8 designates a grating preferably formed bya series of crossed rods' or bars as illustrated in Fig. 3, with the spacing of said bars or rods arranged to provide a clear space or passage 9 through which the head o f a mop may be passed into the lower portion of the main casing or receptacle l, when the mop is to be stored for subequent use, as illustrated in Fig. 2.
Al0 and ll designate inner and outer rings secured to the wall of the casing or receptacle l, intermediate the height of the same, for attaching the grating 8 aforesaid in place in a firm and substantial manner.
12 designates a vertical slot or opening formed in the wall of the main casing or receptacle l and extending from'the' top of said wall to the grating 8 as shown7 and adapted to receive the handle portion of the mop and permit a rapid upward and downward snapping or beating movement of the head of the mop toward or upqn the grating 8 in the operation of cleaning said mop head of dust.
13 designates a Sliding or other usual form of door arranged on the wall of the casing or receptacle l, near the lower end of the same,` and controlling an opening formed at such point in said wall for the convenient removal of the dust accumulated in the casing or receptacle during continued use.
Having thus fully described my said invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is A cleaner and holder for household mops, comprising a casing having a closedbottom, an open top closed by a cover, and a vertical opening in its side Wall extending from the top to nearthe mid-height of the wall, and a grating arranged within the casing in adjacent relation to the lower end of the aforesaid slot, said grating having a space or passage for a mop head, substantially as set forth.
Signed at New York, N. Y., this 10th day of May, 1920.
JESSIE i LEIGH ALLEN.
