FREDERICK 'WILLIAM MARHEINE, OF SPOKANE, WASHINGTON, ASSIGNOR OF ONE. HALF T0 EMIL HANSEN, OF SPOKANE, WASHINGTON.
SASI-I-HGLDEB.
Application filed May 20,
T0 (iZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FREDERICK WI LIAM Maannixn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Spokane, in the county of Spokane and State of Washington, have inventeil new and useful Improvements in Sash- Iiohflers, of which, the following is a specitication.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in sash holders and the principal object of the invention is to provide a simple device for holding the sash in a num ber o'l' dill'erent positions and for locking the sash in closed position.
.AllOiLllQl object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which is simple and durable in construction, reliable and ellicient in operation and one which can be manufactured and placed upon the market at a minimum cost.
The invention also consists in certain other leatin'es of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawin wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure l is an elevation showing the sash locked in closed position.
Fig. 2 shows the sash in partly raised position.
Fig. 3 shows the device used to lock the top sash.
As will be seen from the drawings the invention includes a pair of members 1 and 2., one adapted to be secured to the sash and the other to the window frame. The member 1 is of t..-sl e and is provided with a hole at the corner thereof which is adapted to receive a screw or the like by which the nien'iber is pivoted to the frame. The memher 2 is also of substantially L-shape but the Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 141, 1921 1918. Serial No. 285,520.
short part 2 to the part 2*. sash in such a held in an is slightly inclined in relation This part 2 is secured to the manner that the part 2 is inclined position with respect to the sash. In this way when the window is closed the end of the member 1 will engage with this inclined part, and as the member 1 is in inclined position the sash will be held in closed position as, when an attempt is made to raise the sash the end of memberd will engage and be clamped by the vertical part 2 and thus lock the parts against movement. The window may be unlocked by simply pressing up on the lone; arm 1 of the member 1. I
In Fig. 2 the window is shown in partly raised position with the arm 1 engaging the tip of the part 2.
I t will be seen that the lock will automatically lock the sash as soon as the sash is lowered and it will also hold the sash in a numoer of different positions. lVith this invention it is unnecessary to use the weights and ropes now in use.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that I may make such changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.
I'Vhat I claim is In combination with a window frame and its sash of locking means for the sash consisting of an L-Silil1)ed member pivoted on one part at the junction of its arms and a stationary member on the other part, said L-shaped member having a short arm and a long arm and the stationary member having a straight vertical part and an inclined part, said inclined part receiving the end of the short arm with the corner of said arm resting against the vertical part.
In testimony whereof I aiiix my signature.
FREDERICK WILLIAM MARHEINE.
