To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRED WESLEY Coon,
a -"citizen of the United States of America,
ing stools and like fixtures to the floors of stores, lunch rooms, etc., in a manner capable of withstanding the usual severe stress to which they are exposed in actual use.
The present improvement has for its object to provide a structuraliormation and association of parts whereby a substantial attachment of the stool pedestal to the floor is attained, with the attaching means concealedvfrom sight, and with the pedestal proper capable of detachment and removal when desired, all as will hereinafter more fully appear. In the acc'ompanying drawing:-- Figure 11, is acentral vertical section of the lower portion of a stool pedestal embodying the present improvement.
Fig. 2, is a horizontal section of the attaching head on line 2-2 Fig. 1. Like reference numerals indicate like parts in both views.
Referrin to the drawing, 1 designates an attaching read having a lower expanded portion or base 2, and, a. hollow neck 3 extending up from said base and. preferably f ofa cylindrical form, with itsbcre formed with an upper circular portion 4:, with an intermediate square or likenon-circular portion 5, and with a bottom orific'ed web portionti, as shown. v
7 designates a series of screw holes formed in the base 1, for the passa e of attaching screws, when said 'meanso attachment is deemed advisable. The ron-in fastening means which is especially adapted for concrete floors and the like is of a construction a's'follows: I a I 8 designates a headed lag screw, the head of which-is adapted to fit the square or other non-circular mid-portion 5 of the bore of.
the head 1 so as to be rotatable therewith when the said headis turned by hand as hereinafter described.- The shank of the Specification of Letters Patent.

Appiication filed December 23, 1920. Serial No. 482,703.
1O designates alined orifices extending transversely through the neck portion 3 of the attaching head, and adapted to receive anoperating rod or lever when it is desired to rotate said head and cause the lag screw 8 to screw into and become clamped in the expansmn sleeve 9 aforesaid,
- 11 designates the usual hollow pedestal of a stool adapted to carry on its upper end the usual revoluble seat; and having the lower portion of its bore formed to fit the periphery of the neck 3 of the attachin headl to cover and conceal the same. An
to such end the base portion 13 of the peelestal is provided with an expanded concealing rim or flange adapted to fit over and inclose the bottom flange 2 of the attaching head 1 aforesaid.
14 designates a peripheral recess formed in the upper portion or the neck 3 of the attaching head 1 adapted to receive an attaching screw 15 pass1ngthrough thewall of the pedestal to hold the. parts from accidintal disengagement after an assembly in p ace. v p
Havingthus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is: i
1. In astool attaching means, the combination of an attaching head formed with a central bore and hav ng a bottom flan e, means arranged in said central here or attaching said head to a door, a hollow stool pedestalfitted over said attaching head and having an expanded base portion fittinover and concealing the base of the attacing head, and means'for securing the attaching head and pedestal together. 21; In a stoolattaching means, the combination of an attaching head having a central bore formed withan intermediate noncircular portion and w1th a bottom web having a central orifice for the passage of a estal fitted over said attaching head, and means for securing the attaching head and pedestal together.
3. In a stool attaching means, the combination of an attaching head having a cen tral bore formed with an upper cimi'llar portion, aninterniediate non-circiilar portion and a bottom Weh having a central orifice for the passage of a lag screw said noncircular portion being adapted for operative engagement With the head of said lag screw, a hollow stool pedestal fitted over said attachinghead and means for securing the attaching head and pedestal together 4. In an attaching means, the combination of an attaching head formed with a central bOlE, a bottom and a peripheral recess, means arranged in said bore for attaching the head to the floor, a hollow stool pedestal fitted over said attaching head aeae eei and a fastening screw passing through said pedestal and en aging the aforesaid peripheral recess of the attaching head,
5. In a stool attaching means the conahi nation of an attaching head having cen tral bore formed with an intermediate noncircular portion and with a bottom Web harting a central orifice for the passage of a lag screw, said non-circular portion being adapted for operative engagement with the head of said lag screw, a holloa stool pedestal fitted over said attaching head and means for securing the attaching head and pedestal together the upper portion of t attaching head having transversely orifices for the reception of a rod or to attain turning movement of the he Signed at North Qhicago Ht, day of December, 1920.
