- My invention relates to an improvement in containers, shipping cases, crates, boxes or devices for the transportation of various goods and commodities, and which can be readily collapsed or folded when not in use, occupying the smallest amount of space, cheap to manufacture and simple in construction. And with a further object, to provide a container, shipping case crate or device, which has maximum durability with minimum weight, and is vermin proof.

State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Containers, Shipping-Cases, Crates, and -Boxes, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in containers, shipping cases, crates, boxes or devices for the transportation of various goods and commodities, and which can be readily collapsed or folded when not in use, occupying the smallest amount of space, cheap to manufacture and simple in construction. And with a further object, to provide a container, shipping case crate or device, which has maximum durability with minimum weight, and is vermin proof. With these objects in view my invention con sists in certain novel features of construction and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter fully described and pointed out in the claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which: I

The same reference characters denote like parts in each of the several figures of the drawings.
My device may be constructed of various sizes and may be used for shipping various kinds of commodities. In carrying out my invention, I provide an upper and lower frame or members 1 and 2 respectively.
Each of these frames or members are strengthened at their confronting ends by the metal straps 3, 3, etc. The bottom 4 has a rigid connection with the lower frame or member 2, as shown in Fig. 6, construction to be so adjusted as to allow for expansion and contraction, and supported by blocks or strips of material 5, 5, etc, as shown in Fig. 6, protected by strips or runners 6, 6, etc., as shown in Fig. 6. Several of these strips may be attached'as shown in Fig. 5,
the runners 6, 6, etc., being securely fastened to the bottom 4, and to the bottom of the frame or member 2. The ends of my device are foldable, each of said ends comprising parts 7 and 8 which are connected with parts 1 and 2 by means of hinges b and 0 and to each other by means of the hinges 9, 9. The parts 7 and 8 are hinged to parts 14 and 15 whichare' attached securely to the frame or parts 1 and 2, as shown in Fig. 3 to allow said end parts 7 and 8 to fold above parts 10, when in a foldable position, and the parts 7 and 8 are substantially reinforced by-parts a, a as shown in Fig.1. The adjacent edges of parts 7 and 8 meet in a plane passing through the hinged joints 9, the foldable ends 7 and 8 being disposed within frames or parts 1 and 2 when in collapsed position. Side parts 10, 10 are reinforced by means of strips 11, 11 shown in Fig. 5, securely attached to the same inany suitable manner and are hinged to frame 2; on one side part 12 is securely attached to frame 2 in order to raise one of parts 10 so that it willlie fiat upon the oppositepart 10 as shown in Fig. 4. The position of parts 10 as shown in Fig. 5 prevent the end parts 7 and 8 from folding, thus holding the improved container and device, in a rigid formation.
The hinges 9 and 20 are securely riveted to the respective parts to insure strength anti durability. From the construction and connection of the above parts of my device, it is obvious that when the side parts 10 are so manipulated as to disengage the said side parts 10 from the top of end parts 7 and 8, the end parts 7 and 8 may be folded inwardly whereby my device assumes the position. and has the appearance, shown in Fig. 3. When my device has this last mentioned position, the parts 10 are folded one upon the other which in turn are folded upon the upon parts 1(). Attached to frame 1, by means of hinges 20, I have a cover or top 16, the hinges are near the ends, and each hinge being specially constructed as shown in Fig. 9 and is attached to my device by means of an eyelet headed nut screw, shown in Fig. 10. The cover or top 16 is reinforced by strips or cleats 17, suitably fastened to cover or top 16, overlapping on either ends to outer edge of part 1 and having rounded corners; the cover or top 16 is preferably constructed with groove or tongue or coveredwith metallic covering; the cover 16 is fitted into a recess formed by parts 1 and 15, as shown in Fig. 2, making the same substantial, durable and vermin proof or sanitary for the shipment of bread or other foods or fruits. On each end I have mounted a handle 18 also a pin or device for fastening the parts 1 and 2 together when the said containeris in folded position shown in Figs. 2, 3, and also on the top I have mounted the hinged clamp 21, shown in Figs. 7 and 8. It is understood that the form of my device herewith shown may be changed as to shape, arrangement or size of the parts without departing from the spirit of my invention or the scope of my claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and for which I desire Letters Patent is as follows:
1. In a container shipping case, box or crate as described, upper and lower frame members foldable, sectional inwardly foldable ends, having hinged connection with the frame members and to each other, sides having hinged connection with lower frame members and bottom, a bottom securely fastened by groove into the lower frame mem ber, said groove tolbe of depth to allow for expansion and contraction, and supported by cross pieces between said bottom and a series of longitudinal strips fastened to bottom of said lower frame member, a waterproof to 9 or cover, reinforced by cleats, and mo'unte flush with said frame members, and having hinged connection with said frame mem-' bers, fastening means to fasten the top to said frame member, and means mounted thereon for holding the frame members together, when the device is in a folded or collapsed position.
2. In a device of the class described, up-
per and lower frames, strip members secured within the frames and on the ends thereof, foldable ends hingedly secured to the strip members of the upper and lower frames, a strip member secured within the bottom frame along one side thereof, a side member hinged to the bottom member and a second side member hinged to the strip member of the bottom member whereby the second side member can fold over the first side member when the device is in collapsed position.
3. In a foldable container, upper and lower frame members, strip members secured within the lower frame member along the ends thereof, a third strip member secured within the lower frame member along one side thereof, said strip being of less height than the strips secured along the end members, foldable ends for the container hingedly connected at one end of the upper frame member and at their lower ends hing edly connected to the end strip members of the lower frame member, a side member for the container hingedly secured to the bottom of the lower frame memberand adapted to be folded substantially flat thereon, a second side member hingedly connected to the side strip of the lower frame member whereby the second side member may fold over the other side member, the end members by reason of the end strips being of greater height than the side strip of the lower frame member adapted to be folded over the folded side members when the container is in folded position. 7 p
