Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OEEICE.
NOAH H. LINDLEY, OF BRIDGEPORT, CONNECTICUT.
IMPROVEMENT lN` WELL-CURBS.
Specication forming part of Letters Patent No. 137,555, dated April 8, 1873; application iiled January 22, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, NOAH H. LINDLEY, residing in Bridgeport, in the county of Fairfield and State of Connecticut, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Well- Curbs, of which the following is a specification:
In the drawing, Figure 1 represents aperspective, and Fig. 2 a vertical central sectional View, of my improved Well-curb.
This invention relates to that class of wellcurbs which are susceptible for use in connection with a pump or the well alone 5 and the nature thereof consists ofa plate or cap, preferably constituted of two or more parts, and having rings or flanges, substantially asY hereinafter more fully set forth.
To enable others to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe it.
A refers to the curb cap or plate, preferably constructed of a numbervofsmaller ones or sections, connected or united together in any known way. By thus constructing the said cap or plate, in preference to making it in one piece, economy is practiced, as it can be made or cast much lighter, consequently requiring less material, and which in turn renders it cheaper. This cap or plate is supplied with an upper, lower, and an inner ring or iiange, lettered, respectively, B C D, and with the pump stock orifice a. The former two rings are adjusted upon the said plate through solder or' other suitable means, while the latter consists of an inclosed portion of the plate bound by the opening a, and the upper ring B.
The lower ring is intended to fit into the mouth ot' the well to prevent the bricks, dirt, duc., around its entrance falling into it, and, further, to assist in retaining the curb in place. The upper one receives or incloses the pumpplatform, as Well as holds it in position; pre vents refuse Water entering the well, and also retains in place the Well-house adjusted upon the curb and abutting against or fitting around its exterior surface, while the inner one is for the said platform to stand or rest upon, or, when the pump is not used, for the Well-cap to stand upon.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
As a new article of manufacture, a Wellcurb composed of the plate or cap A,With the rings or ianges B C D, substantially as herein shown and described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto signed my name this 21st day of January, l873,in.pres ence of two subscribing` witnesses.
NOAH H. LIN DLEY.
