Be it known that I, CHARLES W. WALLER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Neckties, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to improvements in necktiesQ and the primary object of the invention is to provide a generally improved necktie having improved means whereby the use of a tie clasp will not wrinkle the tie, but instead cause the tie to retain its proper shape while a tie clasp is used, and also cause the tie to hang in a central straight vertical line instead of hanging to one side, as is the case when common ties are used in conjunction with tie clasps at one of the Fig. 2 is a front elevation of a modified form of the invention; and

' The present embodiment of the improved tie comprises an outer textile fabric flap face 1. and in order to prevent the tie from becoming wrinkled or forced to one side by the use of a common tie clasp designated by 2, said outer flap portion is provided, preferably in its lower portion, with an aperture 3 which penetrates the faceor entire thickness of said flap and permits the upper and lower jaws of said tie clasp to engage the outer flap 1 of the tie and the underside of the button-hole band 4 of a shirt 5 respectively. Inorder to keep the tie in proper position relatlve to the shirt 5 the apertures 3 and 6 are in alinement with the edges of the band 4, preferably the edge 7 or right-hand e ge.

If desired, the form shown in Fig. 1 may be modified by the form shown in Fig. 2 in which one of the lateral portions of the outer face portion may be cut away, preferably the lower right lateral portion, as shown by 8 in Fig. 2, in which case a straight vertical edge 9 is provided adjacent the medial vertical line of said tie,

- which is equivalent to the slit 6 in that it permits the clasp 2 to be adjustable along the edges 7 and 9, the upper portion of said edge 9 being turned to oneside, preferably to the right hand side of the wearer.

In the common types of four-in-hand ties it is very difiicult to get a hold on the lower end of the outer flap 1 when attempting to pull the same through the knot 10 while tying the same, and in order to facilitate this operation I provide, at the said lower end of the outer flap 1, a finger 11, which may be stiff, semi-stifl', or resilient, as desired, and which pulls or pushes the lower end of the outer flap 1 through the knot 10 when said finger has been inserted at the top of and pulled through the bottom of the said knot by the fingers of the wearer.

The said finger may be secured to the tie in any suitable manner such as, for instance, sewing 12, and said finger may be made to extend downwardly a suitable distance as shown in Fig. 1, or may, if desired, be invisibly secured to the back of said outer fiap as shown in Fig. 3.

While I have shown in the drawings the tie already tied, the finger 11 is intended for use only in connection with the four-inhand type of tie, while I wish it understood that the aperture 3, slit 6, and the cut away lateral portion 8 may be employed in either the four-in-hand or ready-made types of ties.

From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and advantages of my invention will be readily understood.

Having thus described an embodiment of my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent'is,-

1. In a four-in-hand fabric necktie, itsv outer flap having the back side of its lower portion provided with a finger.

- 2. A four-in-hand necktie having its outer flap provided with an aperture which penetrates the face of said outer flap, and said aperture adapted to receive the jaw of a tie clasp. a

3 A four-in-hand fabric necktie comprising an outer flap provided with an aperture which penetrates the face of said outer flap, said aperture adapted to receive the jaw of a tie clasp, and the extreme lower portion of said outer flap provided with a finger.
