Description
IGNATZ LOWY, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
LIQUID-DISPENSING APPARATUS.
Application filed August 18, 1919. Serial No.
To all whom it may conoem:
Be it known that I, IGNATZ LowY, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in LiquidDispensing Apparatus, of which the following is a full, clear, and, exaotdescri tion.
My invention relates to improvements in liqllld dispensing apparatus, and it consists in the combinatlons, constructions and arrangements herein described and claimed.
An object of my invention is to (provide a device, by means of which a liqui such as a syrup or other similar liquid, may be readily discharged from a receptacle in a convenient and sanitarymanner by the simple pressure of the finger against a releasing valve.
A furtherlobject of my invention is to provide a dispensing apparatus which contains a liquid under pressure, so that the latter may be forcibly discharged therefrom, as, for instance, when the device is to be used as means for charging soft drinks.
A further object of my invention is to u e L provide a s 1mple dev1ce which may be used 1n connectlon with any suitable retainer havin a narrow neck, as, for instance, a glass bottle, means being provided for expanding resilient castings or washers so as to hold the dispensing mechanism readily in position, and at the same time to render the bottle air tight.
Other objects and advantages will appear in the following specification, and the novel features of the invention will be particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
y invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, forming part of this application, in which- The figure is a central section throughthe device.
In carrying out my invention, I prov de a body portion 1 of metal having an integral cylindrical portion 2, provided at its top with a threaded openmg arranged to receive a screw cap 3. The cylindrical body portion is provided substantially midway between the ends with a shoulder 41, and is threaded at its lower end, both internally and externally.. Arranged to enterthe lower end of the body ortion is a threaded end 5 of a pipe 6 whlch extends down to a point near the bottom of the bottle or container 7. The

body portion is provided with a which continues in an extension 9 leading to a valve casing 10 at the bottom of a pump or compressor 11. The valve casing 10 contalns a valve 12 of any suitable form, which 1s des1gned to. open to permit air to pass from the compressor 11 through the by-pass 8, and into the interior of the bottle 7 but will closeimmediately after the excess pressure on the top of the valve is relieved.
A plston valve 13 is disposed within the cylindrical portion 2 and is arran ed to seat against the partition or flange 4. ihis valve is held normally against its seat by means of a spring 14, the lower end of which bears on theend of the pi e connection, 5. Surrounding the oylindrlcal body portion 2 is a plurality of washers or resilient rings 15.
by-pass 8 hese rings are held between a nut 16 at one end and a nut 17 at the other, the nuts 16 to the outer surface of and 17 being screwed the cylindrical body portion- The nut 16 is which extends through the hollow body portion and also through the screw cap 3. A spout 20 communicates with the interior of the cylindrical portion.
From the foregoing description of the various parts of the device, the operation thereof may be readily understood. The portion containing the resilient washers or rings 15 is placed in the neck of the bottle 7 and then the nut 16 is forced downwardly by turning the handles 18, thus compressing them to expand until they firmly engage t e interior of the neck of the bottle 7, and thus make an air tight closure. It is assumed, of course, that prior to this any suitable liquid, such as s rup, has been introduced into the bottle. ith a few strokes of the handle 21of the air compressor 11, the liquid is put under air pressure, but it cannot flow out, because the valve 13 is held closed by the spring. Now on pressing down on a button or finger plate 22 at the top of the stem 19, the valve 13 may be forced from its seat, whereupon the pressure inside of the bottle will force the liquid up through the pipe 6, past the valve, through the hol ow body portion 2, and out at thespout 20. When the pressure is relieved, the valve instantly closes off the discharge passage. I
The device may be used for dispensing liquids of any kind, but is particularly dewater or the like.
' the flow through the closing of the valve 13.
The device is simple in its nature, and may be made in many modified forms without departing ffim the spirit and scope of the invention.
I claim: v
1. In a liquid dispensing device a re-. ceptacle, a tubular stopper therefor, said stopper "having a hollow' cylindrical body portion. formed with an inwardly extending flange intermediate its length to form a valve seat, a piston valve disposed in the interior of the hollow body portion of said cylindrical stopper below said flange, a screw plug at the upper end of said cylindrical body portion, a valve stem arranged to pass through the screw plug and being connected with said valve, a springvarranged to bear against the under side of said valve to norm'all hold said valve against its seat, an inta e pipe having a threaded end secured to the bottom of the tubular stopper,
said pipe being arranged to extend into the receptacle, a plurality of superposed resilient rings surrounding a portion of the tubular stopper, a nut for supporting the rings, a second nut for compressing the rings against the first nut, whereby therings are expanded to engage the wall of the mouth of the receptacle, an air compressor, means for establishing communication between the air compressor and the interior of the tubular stopper, and a spout connecting with the hollow cylindrical body portion of the tubular stopper.
2. In. a li uid dispensing device a receptacle, a tu ular stopper having a hollow cylindrical portion arranged to enter the mouth of the receptacle, said hollow cylindrical portion being provided with a valve seated on the interior thereof, a screw plug at the upper end of said hollow cylindrical body portion, a valve stem arranged to pass through the screw plug and being connected with said valve, a sprlng arranged to bear on-said valve at one end, an intake pipe havin a threaded end secured to the bottom of sai stopper and communicating with said cylindrical body portion, said pipe being arranged to extend into the receptacle, a plurallty of superposed resilient rings surrounding a portion of the tubular stopper arranged to enter the mouth of the receptacle, a nut for supporting the rings, a second nut for compressing the rings against the first nut, whereby the rings are expanded to engage the wall of the mouth of the receptacle, said tubular stopper being provided with a vertically extendin passage in its wall opening into the interior of the receptacle, a laterally extending tubular extension formed integrally with said tubular stopper to communicate with said passage at the upper end thereof, an air compressor mounted on the outer end of said tubular extension and communicating therewith, whereby the flow of compressed air from said air compressor into the interior of said receptacle is permitted, and a spout connecting with said hollow cylindrical body portion of said tubular stopper at a point above the valve seated therein.
