a citizen of the United States, residing at Shannon, in the county of Carroll and State of Illinois, have invented certainnew and useful Improvements in "Postage-Stamp Aflixers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a postage stamp. aflixer and has for its principal object to produce a device of this nature which will deliver postage stamps one at time so that same may be readily aiiixed upon the letter, the stamphaving been previously moistened.

By referring to the drawings by-numerals it will be seen that 1 designates the casing which may be of any preferred construction and as shown contains the side walls 2 one of which may be readily removed SQJasto make the interior of the casing easily ac- 3- is provided upon the casing 1 and is constructed so as to carry the trigger 1 upon the pivot 5. A spring 6 is situated adjacent the top portion of the casing 1 so as to extend into the handle 3 and to be connected to the trigger 4 in such a manner as to normally urge this trigger toward the casing. A rod 7 has one end connected to the trigger 4 intermediate its ends and its other end is pivotally connected to the lever 8 which is situated upon the pivot 9 within the casing 1. This lever 8 is provided with the angular extension 10 so as to slidably engage the lever 11 pivotally carried at 12 within the casing 1 and probottom the pad 34 which are engaged by the V vided at one end with the stop 13 thus holdmg the "extension 10 always in engagement w th the lever 11. A spring 14 is situated within the casing so as to normally hold the lever 8 in the position shown in Fig. 1 and another spring 15 is provided for normally holding the lever 11 in the position shown in Fig. 1.
At the forward end of the casing 1 there is provided the opening in thebottom indidicated' by the numeral 16. Immediately above this opening 16 there is situated the block 17 which has fixedly attached to its 18. Extending upwardly from the block 17 there is provided the rod 19 having the plate 20 adjacent its upper end so as to carry the expansion coil spring 21 which is adapted to rest against the to of the casing 1 thus normally holding the block 17 in a lowered position. A bracket 22 is fixedlyattached to the rod 19 adjacent the block'17 so as to carry the knife 23 for the purpose of cutting the stamps from the strips 24.
The rod 19 is provided with a plurality of apertures 25 in one of which is situated the pin 26 so as to carry the rack bar 27 which is normally held downwardly bv means of the leaf spring 28. The ratchet 35 ,bar 27 is provided at its free end with teeth for engaglng the hollow cog wheel 30 rotatably mounted upon the friction wheel 31 by means of the axle 32 upon which this friction wheel rotates. The cog wheel 30 is of'hollo-w construction and its inner periphery is provided with a plurality of notches spring-pressed pawl 85. From this construction it will be seen that the friction wheel 31 will only be rotated when the rack bar 27 is pushed downwardly. A
A drum 36' is rotatably mounted within the casing 1 upon which is wound the strip stamp 24. This strip 2 1 then extends under the friction roller 31 and over the friction rollers 37 so that the glued portion of. the stamps will engage the moistening sponge 38 which is fed by the water container 39 through the pipe 40.
The operation of the device is as follows. The trigger 4 is pulled rearwardly thus pulling upon the rod 7 which will actuate the lever 8 so that the extension 10 will slide along the lever 11 thus pushing the forward 110 end thereof upwardly. This forward end is in engagement with the leaf spring 42 and the leaf spring 42 thus allowing the expansion coil spring 21 drawing upon the plate to force the rod 19 downwardlyat which time the rack bar 7 will rotate the cog wheel 30. Upon theirotation of the cog wheel in this direction it will be seen that the whereby the pulled from the drum 36 so that one ofthespring pressed pawl will engagel the teeth 34 thus rotating the friction wheel 31 strip of stamps 24 will be stamps will move over the moistener 38 and 'be situated over the opening 16 so that the block 17' will strike the stamp thus pressing same firmly upon an envelop. Simultaneously with the block 17 the knife 23 will cut the stamp from the remaining strip 24L Although the construction shown in the drawing and described above is my preferred construction I wish it understood that I may make suchchanges in the construction,
claims;
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Let ters Patent is 1. A device of theclassdescribed, the'come bination of a. casing, a handle,'a trigger situated in said handle, a rod pivotally connected'to said trigger and leading into said casing, a lever pivotally carried in sa1d casing and having one endpivotally connected to the end of said rod and provided with an angular extension, a second lever pivotally carried in said casing, one'portion of which is engaged by the angular extension of the first lever, a block situated within said casing above an opening, a rod connected to said block and adapted to extend through the top of said casing, a plate carried by said second mentioned rod, an expansion coil spring situated on said plate and engaging the top" of'said casingso as to normally hold said' second mentioned rod and said block in' alowered position,'a bracket extending' later- I said block and its further end arrangement, and combination of parts as will fall within the scope of the appended ally from said second mentioned rod, a knife situated upon said bracket, a drum for receiving astrip' of stamps, a friction roller, a hollow cog wheel rotatably mounted adj acent said friction roller, a pawl carried by said friction roller for engaging the interior of the cog wheel, a rack bar having'one end pivotally connected to the rod situated on a rack adapted to engage said cog wheel.
