GARMENT HANGER. APPLICATION FILED JULY I6. 1920.
Patented Feb. 15, 1921.
M/l/E/V TOR WITNESSES @W M lFdYE/ITl/AL A TTOR/VEYS MOSES ROSENTHAL, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
GARMENT-HANGER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application flied July 16, 1920. Serial No. 396,724.
To aZZwhom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, Moses RosnN'rHAL, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of'the city of New York borough of Manhattan, in thecounty and itate of New York, have invented a new and Improved Garment-Hanger, of which the iollowing is a full, clear, and exact description.
The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in garment hangers and pertains more particularly to devices of this character especially adapted for supporting coats, trousers and the like.
It is the primary object of the invention to so construct a garment hanger that certain parts thereof may be conveniently removed when desired.
It is a further object of the present invention to so construct a garment hanger that a plurality of garments may be supported thereby if desired.
' With the aboveand other objects in view, reference is had to the accompanying drawings in which,
Figure l is a perspective view of the pre ferred form of the present invention;
Fig. 2. is a perspective view of a modified form of the invention, and
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of a stil further modified form of the invention.
Referring to the drawings and more particularly to Fig. 1, the reference character 5 designates the main body of the garment hanger and said body is so shaped as to generally conform to the neck and shoulder portions of a coat, and thehody is provided with a supporting hook 6. Depending em each end of the hody portion 5 are legs 1, and said legs are notched as indicated at 8, the bottom wall 9 of each of said notches lying below the lower edge of the opening 10thereof; While each of the legs 7 provided in the present instance with two notches 8, it is, to be understood that a greater or lesser number of notches may he employed, if desired, without departing from the spirit of the invention;
Connecting the lower ends of the legs 7,
and secured thereto as. at 12, is a rigid bar 11. .iihe reference character 13 designates bars, the ends of-said bars being provided with enlarged heads or the like 14. The
heads 14: are adapted to lie on the exterior of the legs 7, as shown in Fig. 1, that portion of the bar 13 adjacent the heads 14 being adapted to be received within the notches 8. By this construction it will be seen that a garment may be placed either on the bottom or rigid bar 11, or on one or two of the bars 13 to be supported by the legs 7, and that owing to the bottom wall of the notches 8 being below the edge 10 of the opening to the notches, it is apparent that the bars 13 will be retained within the notches against accidental displacement.
In the embodiment of the invention shown in Fig. 2, the device is formed from a single piece of'wire, andsaid wire is bent intermediate of its ends to form two legs 18, a bottom bar 19, and cross upper bars 20, the ends of which are twisted together as at 21, and one of the ends bein formed with a supporting hook 22. Eac of the legs 18 is formed intermediate of its ends with two hooks 23 so shaped as to provide a depressed portion 24 for the reception of the cross bars 13, as shown in Fig.1.
In the form of the invention shown in Fig. 3, the body portion comprises two members 30 and 31, pivotally securedtogether as at 32, a supporting hook 33 being carried loy or mounted on the bolt which forms the ivotal point of the two members 30 and 31. ach of the members 30 and 31 is cut out as at 34, and pivotally secured to each of these members 30 and 31 as at 35, is a depending leg member 36. Each of these leg members 35' is provided with notches .8 shaped as in the preferred form of the invention shown in Fig. 1.
From the foregoing it will be apparent that the present invention provides'a garment hanger which in addition to supporting a coat, or similar article, is capable of supporting a plurality of other garments if desired, and also has the advantage of having the supports for the other garments removably attached thereto in order that they my be conveniently removed when desired.
