IMPROVEMENT IN TABLE-LEAF SUPPORTS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 136,836, dated March 18, 1873.

To all whom lt may concern:

Be it known that I, WILLARD JEFTs, of Battle Greek, in the county of Calhoun and State of Michigan, have invented certain Improvements in a Table-Leaf Support, of which the following is a specification:

yNature and Objects of thc Invention.

My invention relates to the combination of a wedge, slide, and spring in such a manner as to form a self-acting support to the leaf of a table; the object of this arrangement being to obviate the sagging of the table-leaf.

General Description.

A is the leaf of the table. B is a wedges'haped piece attached to the "under side of.

end of the slide C is attached one end of the coil-spring D, the other end of which is permanentl y fixed to the tableiat l. As the slide is pushed in for the purpose of dropping the leaf, carrying with it one end of the spring, the spring is drawn into a state often sion; and as the leaf is raised, the elasticity ofthe spring instantly throws out the 'slide till its motio is arrested by the wedge B.

It is designed to construct this support in such a way that at first the slide C shall be able to pass only partially over the wedge B; but as from wear or shrinkage the leaf would be inclined to sag without some further support, the slide C will be thrown out still further by the spring D, and, following up on the wedge B, will always keep the leaf in a firm and horizontal position.

Claim.

I claim as my invention- The wedge B, the slide C, and thesprug D, all combined and arranged substantially as and for the purpose hereinbefore set forth and described.
